Universal Tube monetizes YouTube traffic

Listen to article

The company website of Universal Tube and Rollform Equipment Corporation can be found at www.utube.com. Their popularity and subsequent problem came knocking when Google bought YouTube early October this year.

The huge press coverage and all caught attention to people wanting to check out the site youtube.com. However, according to utube.com “some 80,000 Unique Visitors per Day don’t know how to spell you“. Yup, their website crashed due to massive traffic and they were forced to shut down their website.

Until today, tons of people are still typing in www.utube.com instead of youtube.com on their browsers looking for videos and all.

So, in order for Universal Tube to pay off its bandwidth, they thought of monetizing it. See their website’s header layout below:

The links on top with the search field will direct users to a results page like the one below:

UTube Video Search

I’m pretty sure they’re now raking in a few thousand dollars a day from them YouTube passers-by. And I won’t be surprised if Universal Tube would someday change their business to selling DVDs online.
