We always rejoice whenever something Filipino-related comes out on the Top Twitter Trending Topics but I never realized it would take a hostage taking situation like the one we have right now at the Quirino Grandstand to bring in the all-time spotlight.

Chrice Pempenco, Jollibee on Glee, Christian Bautista, PNoy, the UAPP all had their short stint on TT.
This time, 4 of the top trending topics are Quirino Grandstand, Mendoza, PNP and Hostage Taker (plus Isko Moreno doing a post-incident scandal). The Philippines has finally taken Twitter hostage. These are events that make the Philippines famous. What a sad day.

”The crisis began when the dismissed policeman, Rolando Mendoza, 55, armed with a M16 rifle seized the busload of Hong Kong tourists to demand his reinstatement in the force.” — orayt, Noy.
Somewhat OT: I don’t get the Noy thing. His case goes far back before Noy.
I think it began when he was framed by an alleged drug addict along with his colleagues. My private sources say, the “victim” made up the extortion case or something to that effect to hide his habit.
