Globe kicks off iPhone 3G Launch with a bang

Listen to article

Last night, Globe kicked off the iPhone 3G Launch Party with thousands of people counting down to 12 midnight with free flowing beer, food and lots more. No other mobile phone ever enjoyed this same treatment as the Apple iPhone.

According to one of the managers at the floor, Globe was able to activate and distribute over 600+ 3G iPhone in less than 3 hours.

A lady from Bulacan, Nina Sarmiento, was the very first Globe iPhone customer, waiting in line at the Tower One and Exchange Plaza in Makati City as early as 3PM that afternoon. Ankush Raisinghani, Proctor and Gamble HR Director, was the first person who reserved an iPhone 3G when Globe opened reservations last August 6.

Thousands more have reserved their iPhone 3G online and thru Globe hotlines and they’re expecting people lining up on all business centers around Metro Manila today. From what I heard, the most popular unit so far is the Black 16GB iPhone 3G. Majority of those who got an iPhone were customers claiming them as loyalty rewards.

Could this be the one of the longest iPhone customer line in the world?

Ankush Raisinghani of Proctor and Gamble receives his iPhone 3G from Globe Consumer Wireless Group Head Ferdinand Dela Cruz.

First iPhone 3G subscriber Nina Sarmiento receives her mobile from
Globe President & CEO Gerry Ablaza.

The 199.99 iphone price comes with a 2 year agreement and a minimum monthly bill of 90 $ plus tax amounting to 100$ for U.S. residents (450 minutes )
The phone itself costs 700-800 $ on ebay unlocked.
Its a really good phone.
Its a computer, ipod, pda, and phone in one innovative device.

I guess people who bought the iPhone 3G aren’t really up-to-speed with the current iPhone news. The iPhone Software 2.0 that came with the iPhone 3G stinks! I own an iPod touch and I hate the software 2.0 update.. So many problems on an awesome device. I guess I’ll just buy when Apple fixes those problems.. and probably by that time the price would have gone down. Imagine, an iPod Touch sells sells 12K for a 8GB model.. and the iPhone? 36K? And their only difference is the phone?

Typical Apple Hype in Launching a product. I bet Apple’s got a hand on the event, otherwise it would have been an ordinary phone launching without the bells and whistle. Now a lot of people will have an Iphone, the more reason I won’t get one. Good thing I sold my 1st gen Iphone months ago. Good Luck to yall. Peace!
