HMD now an independent brand: takes over Nokia socmed pages, website

HMD Global has fully transitioned into an independent brand, with Nokia branding now falling under its umbrella. As a result, Nokia Mobile’s social media pages and website have all been renamed to HMD, which stands for Human Mobile Devices.

Previously, HMD Global CEO Jean-Francois Baril announced their venture into the smartphone scene with its own HMD brand.

While the dropping of the Nokia branding may seem like the end of the line, HMD has confirmed in a blog post that they’re “still makers of Nokia smartphones and Nokia dumbphones,” adding, “…but we’re getting warmed up to bring you even more, including original HMD devices, and phones from all-new partnerships.”

“We’re mixing things up with a multi-brand approach,” said Lisa Higgins, Head of Marketing at HMD Europe in her LinkedIn post. “This means you will get to see unique HMD originals, the Nokia phones you’ve always loved.”

Customers can still shop for Nokia devices at HMD.com, as the Nokia website now redirects there. HMD has also assured users that current Nokia devices will continue to receive full warranty support.

Committed to making phones that are tough, fun, secure, fast, and affordable, all while upholding their promises of sustainability, HMD will reportedly unveil its own branded smartphones at the upcoming MWC Barcelona on February 26 to 29.
