Canon Philippines officially brought back its flagship photography event after a seven-year hiatus, with the Canon Photomarathon 2026 held on April 18 at the BGC Amphitheater in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

The full-day competition gathered over 1,200 participants, from hobbyists to professionals, all challenged to interpret the theme “Feel It.”

Civil engineer and street photographer Von Cedrick Cunanan emerged as Grand Champion with a compelling image of a jeepney driver resting inside his vehicle under the midday heat.

“I wanted to capture what he’s feeling: the heat, the tiredness, the gas prices,” Cunanan shared, aiming to evoke emotion and awareness through his shot.

His winning entry earned him a Canon EOS R6 Mark III paired with an RF 24-105mm IS STM lens, a major upgrade from the Canon EOS RP he used during the competition.

This year’s Photomarathon marked a significant evolution for the event. Aside from the usual Open and Canon-exclusive categories, Canon introduced a Video Category for the first time, expanding the competition beyond still photography.

Participation was also opened to all digital camera users, alongside dedicated categories for media and Canon employees.

The BGC Amphitheater was transformed into a creative playground through the Canon Creator Park, featuring themed setups like pet photography, cosplay, and bridal shoots.

Attendees also joined workshops led by industry professionals, covering topics such as:

  • Wildlife photography
  • Content creation
  • Cityscape shooting
  • Cinema camera workflows

Hands-on demos of Canon’s latest imaging gear and on-site printing stations added to the experience, allowing participants to turn their shots into physical keepsakes.

Canon Philippines says the return of Photomarathon reflects its continued push to grow the country’s creative community.

“What made today special was seeing so many different kinds of creators in one place,” said Anuj Aggarwal, President and CEO of Canon Marketing Philippines. “It’s about giving people the space and tools to explore creativity together.”

Winning entries and event highlights are expected to be showcased on Canon Philippines’ official platforms in the coming weeks.

With its comeback, Canon Photomarathon 2026 not only revived a beloved event but also reinforced the role of photography and video in telling meaningful, real-world stories.
