Yi Technology, a company focused on producing video recording and imaging devices, is popularly known for their various portable devices for outdoor and indoor use. One of their specialties is their home cameras meant for monitoring households with ease. Today, we’ll be checking out the Yi-Cloud Dome Camera 1080p‘s quality and features. Let’s start!
The Yi-Cloud Dome Camera is a 360-degree home camera that is capable of monitoring one whole room with ease. The retail package comes with the unit, wall plug, micro USB cable, base tray, some screws, and manuals. If you’ve already seen a Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras, then you already have a good idea on what it looks like. There are two color variants but what we received is the white one.
It has a large circular top which houses the lens that can be moved at an almost 360-degree angle.
In its base, there is an LED indicator which indicates if the camera is successfully connected to the internet while on top of it is the microphone.
The left and the right side contains loudspeakers where users can hear the sound of anyone talking to them via the dedicated app, more on that later.
At the back are the microSD card slot, Reset Button, micro USB port, and LAN port.
Setting the Dome Camera is pretty straightforward you’ll just have to rely on the instructions told in the manual. First off for Android and iOS devices, download the Yi Home application. Open the app then select a region and register an account. Once you’ve registered, a verification email will be sent to your selected email address. Verify it and proceed by logging in to the app.
At this point, you can turn on the Dome camera by plugging it into a power socket. The LED indicator will be in orange as this indicates that it has yet to connect to the internet.
Go back to the app and add a camera by tapping on the plus sign in the upper right corner. After selecting the Yi-Cloud Dome Camera, an automated voice will prompt and tell you to pair the device to the QR code that will appear in the app.
After pairing, you will be prompted to set up the Wi-Fi connection in the device through the app. After a few minutes, the Dome Camera will now be successfully paired with your phone. You can check if the pairing is successful if the LED indicator becomes blue.
After following the steps above, you are now ready to use the Dome Camera but first, let’s talk about the UI and features. The main dashboard is pretty straightforward as it will show the registered cameras with an image preview on each broadcasted video.
There are three main options: Alerts for notifications, Settings for configuration (camera name, modifications, pin protection, information, and connectivity), and Subscribe for service subscriptions such as Encrypted uploading, limitless storage, motion detection, and more security.
Selecting the camera will give you a live feed of what’s currently being broadcasted. The first half contains most of the functionalities of the camera. On the lower left of the feed, users can adjust the video quality into SD or HD. Users can also multi-task while watching the feed by pressing the “minimize” button on the other side. Below them are the options namely Mute Sound, Record Video, Speak to Microphone, Capture an image, and full screen.
The sound quality is good in the app as it can detect normal speaking voices at approximately 10 meters away from the dome camera. As for the camera’s audio, holding the microphone button lets users speak in the app which can be heard in the device’s loudspeakers. We are actually surprised by how loud and clear it was. Just imagine that the sound it produces can be heard in a room full of people.
The second half contains a large wheel for navigation where users can move the dome camera lens from left-to-right and top-to-bottom. Users can also capture a panorama shot with just one press on the upper right corner of the same area. Check out some of the sample shots that we got.
The Yi-Cloud Dome Camera is actually pretty comprehensive and detailed when it comes to its features in the mobile app. However, for the desktop app (download it here), it’s straightforward as it only features video record download, sound listening, and live feed monitoring.
The overall quality of the camera is great thanks to its 1080p resolution. The color accuracy and details are decent with minimal noise. There are features like the motion detection (needs a subscription) and a baby crying detection that we can’t test since we do not have a baby in our studio as of writing.
For its features, video, and sound quality, it is definitely worth the purchase especially if you need a surveillance device monitoring your home. The Yi-Cloud Dome Camera 1080p is priced at Php3,419USD 58INR 4,939EUR 55CNY 424 and can be purchased at the official Yi Store in Lazada, Hey Joe Gadget Store, Blade Auto Center, PRG Photo Shop, Urban Gadgets, Smart Future PH, Maricel Online Store, and Smartifact Technology. yi fan says:
i dont get it. does the yi-cloud “cloud” only mean you have to subscribe cloud service to activate motion detection? i have the 720p dome and 1080p dome, both models can use motion detection without subscribing the service. does this new model is cheaper than the old models?
