PNP steps up crackdown on banned Firecrackers online

Listen to article

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is ramping up its efforts against the illegal sale of banned firecrackers, especially online, as New Year celebrations draw closer. According to the PNP, cyber-patrol teams are now actively monitoring online marketplaces and social media to catch sellers offering prohibited fireworks.

Several arrests have already been made, and authorities say operations will intensify as demand peaks during the holidays. The PNP is also working with the Department of Trade and Industry, delivery platforms, and the Bureau of Customs to stop the sale and importation of illegal firecrackers.

Banned items include watusi, piccolo, super lolo, and other oversized or unmarked fireworks that pose serious safety risks. Violators may face fines of up to ₱20,000 and jail time. The PNP reminds the public that celebrating safely protects lives and supports legitimate sellers.
