Listen to article

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has warned content creators against using police uniforms in online stunts or videos without authorization.

The PNP chief, Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. stated that people who impersonate law enforcement officers for entertainment purposes face severe legal penalties. Authorities began their official investigation after a vlogger posted a viral photo in which he wore the PNP ceremonial blue uniform.

Nartatez declared that his organization approaches the situation with full seriousness while they conduct investigations to identify the responsible parties who will face penalties for using police uniforms without permission.

The Revised Penal Code’s Article 179 states that people who illegally wear police uniforms or insignia face a maximum sentence of six months in prison. Nartatez emphasized that the PNP uniform represents state authority and the sacrifices of police officers, and should not be misused.

He warned people about AI content which creates fake police officer appearances. He urged people to check facts before they share information because this would stop false information from spreading and maintain public confidence.
