The website of the Senate of the Philippines was reportedly targeted by a cyberattack on June 10, with local hacktivist group Nullsec Philippines claiming responsibility for the incident.
According to the group, it somehow gained unauthorized access to the website and then changed its content, such as by posting a message calling for more transparency, accountability, and action against government corruption.
The message also urged public officials to actually carry out their duties toward the Filipino people. In a statement, the Senate said that initial assessments found no sign that any confidential or sensitive information had been breached. Officials emphasized that the website primarily hosts publicly accessible documents and other information intended for public viewing, so, in their view, nothing private was compromised.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the extent of the breach and strengthen the website’s security measures.
