Here are the advantages of each smartphone:
- Larger screen size
- Higher aspect ratio
- Higher horizontal screen resolution
- Corning Gorilla Glass 6
- Larger RAM
- Higher secondary rear camera resolution
- Higher front camera resolution
- TOF Camera
- Under-display fingerprint scanner
- Larger battery capacity
- SuperVOOC Charging
- Higher pixel density
The R17 Pro has a higher overall display configuration while the Mi 8 SE has a higher pixel density which does not make much difference in this comparison. In terms of viewing experience, the former is obviously the better pick since it has a larger screen size and aspect ratio.
Both devices carry the new premium mid-range chipset from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 710. We expect them to have almost the same performance that can run moderate to graphics intensive games with ease. If we could see one factor that would affect a smartphone’s performance, it would be the RAM capacity. In this case, the R17 Pro has 8GB while the Mi 8 SE has 6GB. This shouldn’t be an issue for casual users but if you’re the type who runs plenty of apps in the background and want the smoothest multitasking experience, the larger the RAM, the better.
The R17 Pro is superior in terms of camera resolutions on both rear and front compared with the Mi 8 SE but, like we always say, it’s not always the resolution that determines camera quality. However, one main advantage of the R17 pro is its Time-Of-Flight (TOF) camera. This is a range imaging camera system that captures 3D photos using infrared light as the scanner of the subject. We’ll know more once we get our hands on both devices in the coming days. In the meantime, you can check our sample shots for the OPPO R17 Pro here.
The R17 Pro comes with a larger battery capacity and features a 50W SuperVOOC charging technology while the Mi 8 SE has 3,120mAh and Quick Charge 3 support. Given the capacity and fast charging technology, the R17 Pro has the upper hand.
In summary, the R17 Pro is the superior device in terms of overall specs. Now we just have to wait for their local prices. What do you guys think? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
