We’re here in the island of Maui, Hawaii to attend the annual Snapdragon Summit as Qualcomm formally unveils their latest chipsets — the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen5 for mobile and the Snapdragon X2 Elite for PC.

Originally teased last week, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen5 is the latest mobile SoC from Qualcomm. As the naming suggests, it is the 5th generation in the Snapdragon 8 family and will be used in many flagship smartphones to be announced in the coming weeks and months (the Xiaomi 17 series which will be announced tomorrow).
Here are some of the details of this chipset:

* Qualcomm® Oryon™ CPU: 20% better performance; featuring hardware matrix acceleration that works in tandem with the Qualcomm Hexagon NPU.

* Qualcomm Adreno GPU: Supports QHD+ 240 Hz display; 23% faster Sliced Adreno GPU architecture at 1.2GHz per slice for amazing graphics and realistic environments.
* AI: On-device agentic AI assistants powered by your personal knowledge graph and Personal Scribe; 37% faster Qualcomm® Hexagon NPU and 16% better performance per watt.
* Qualcomm Spectra ISP: 20-bit ISP; APV codec; AI powered camera assistant for pro-level capture and editing control.
* Gaming: Industry leading Adreno RAM; Tile Memory heap reduces power usage; Full Unreal Engine 5 support for console-quality visuals and immersive gameplay.
* Connectivity: Snapdragon X85 5G Modem-RF System with 30% faster AI inferencing; Qualcomm FastConnect 7900 Mobile Connectivity System with Wi-Fi 7 and integrated AI delivering 40% more power savings and up to 50% lower gaming latency.

To demonstrate the power of the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen5, Qualcomm provided us with a a reference device (QRD) that we can use and test a number of benchmarks.
