Chavit's LCS builds first common cell tower in the Philippines

Listen to article

On Wednesday, October 16, a ceremony was held in Caoayan, Ilocos Sur to commemorate the site of the Philippines’ first shared cell tower. LCS Holdings Inc., controlled by Luis “Chavit” Singson and UA Withya PCL of Thailand said that the first shared cell tower will be operational in a few months.

In a report by Inquirer.net, LCS Holdings Inc. also promised to build at least 50,000 more cell towers, as pushed by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). The country’s poor mobile service is attributed to the lack of cell towers. According to Chavit Singson, they will prioritize the deployment of their common towers in regional and rural areas. Their goal is to narrow the gap of mobile service between the metro areas and the regional and rural areas.

LCS Holdings also announced that the new coming third telco DITO Telecommunity will be its launch customer. The ceremony marked the beginning of both DITO and LCS’ infrastructure to provide “much-deserved, state-of-the-art mobile service for the Philippines,” said Adel Tamano, chief administrative officer at DITO on Wednesday.

DITO has committed to cover at least 37% of the population by July 8, 2020, and LCS Holdings’ infrastructure would be beneficial for their successful rollout. Over DITO’s five-year commitment, they promised to cover 84% of the Philippines’ population and offer internet speeds of at least 55Mbps, otherwise, they forfeit their PHP 25.7 billion performance bond. Aside from LCS Holdings, DITO has also partnered with ABS-CBN Corp’s SkyCable for fiber cables in Metro Manila.

Another bogus committment awarded by the government. Not being a pessimist pero alam na ang ending nito wherein promised services and speed of connection won’t be met.
