Google says active users of the Gemini app in Southeast Asia more than doubled over the past year. The Philippines stands out in the data.
That number comes from the first Gemini Report: Southeast Asia 2026, released July 14. It tracks how people in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam use the app for work, study, and everyday tasks.

The Philippines is the only country in the region where more prompts come from women than men. Gemini use cuts across genders here, but female users lead the pack.
Filipinos also lean on it for real work. Around 24% of prompts from the Philippines happen during creative tasks, the most common type. About 17% ask for writing help. Plenty use it as a career coach for job questions and work decisions.

The BPO angle is worth a look. Local professionals tap Gemini for customer service and marketing content. The Philippines logs three times more customer support prompts than the regional average.
Now the bigger picture. Google counts 900 million monthly active users worldwide. Southeast Asia is its fastest-growing app market, pushed by a young, mobile-first crowd. Nearly 40% of the region is under 25, and they write longer, more detailed prompts than older users.

Language is the real driver. Nearly 70% of prompts in the region come in native languages, led by Vietnam at 89%, Thailand at 87%, and Indonesia at 84%. AI Singapore also ranked Gemini the best-performing large language model for Southeast Asian languages on its SEA-HELM benchmark.
Mobile rules here. Almost 3 in 4 requests come from phones. Voice, photos, and video make up more than 4 in 10 prompts, and 1 in 10 users lean fully on voice through Gemini Live. People generated 5 billion images with Nano Banana over the past year, plus close to 1 million songs with Lyria 3
Next up is Gemini Spark. It is a personal AI agent built to handle tasks on its own, even when your phone is locked. It is out now in English for Google AI Ultra subscribers, with local Southeast Asian languages rolling out to Ultra users this week.
In-app shopping is live too. In the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam, you can go from brainstorming to browsing inside the chat, complete with product listings and price comparisons.
