LG & Nokia Sale: The Aftermath

By this time, both the LG Optimus One and the Nokia C6 sale are both over and we’ve got multiple reports from various locations about how it went down. Estimates put hundreds to thousands of people lined up for both sale.

Our ground correspondents tell us there were a lot of people who were in the malls even before the gates were opened. Here’s a photo of the line in there today.

People were running from floor to floor just to line up for each of the sale. As expected, the events were disorganized and for the lack of a better term, chaotic. At the end of the sale, people were booing and shouting to boycott LG.

Unfortunately, only an estimated 20 to 30 people were able to buy the Optimus One per location in the one-hour window. We’re still getting numbers for the Nokia C6 but I imagine it will be like double that number for the 2-hour period.

Share us your experience below if you were there today.

Sorry, I already posted my experience dun sa Sale Vote (bago lang kasi to >_<). Anyhow, repost na lang:

SALE REPORT: My friend and I arrived sa Megamall at around 11am (almost 12) at nagulat kami na yung pila is stemming from the 4th floor all the way to the 1st. That’s for both LG and Nokia.

Right there and then, we knew it was hopeless (for us at the very least).

I’m guessing that things ended up badly there. Before we ended our shopping spree (yeah, namili na lang kami ng mga “kailangan” namin), 30 minutes before 3pm, we decided to check how things were working out. Tapos nakita namin that there were still lines hanggang sa baba. Unless of course if they decided to extend the sale. Pero we wouldn’t know anything about that kasi nga umalis na kami.

Oh well, ganun talaga. It’s really not intended for everyone. I ended up buying a sturdy bag instead (and I’m loving it. Hehe).

Anyhow, congrats sa mga nakabili. For the rest, I’m sure this is not the end. May susunod pa yan.

Goodness, I arrived there at around 10:20 and the line was already long. I told myself it was not worth it to wait. My friend went there earlier, as in opening. He bought one at full price instead of lining up for one. The 20-30 people who got an Optimus One are lucky! Haha.

I was there 10:15 a.m. and the line was already long WOW! both in Nokia and L.G. (I was there to get a copy of #black ops. @Itech.)

  10. no new phone says:

ugh.. i got there as early as 10am and still wasn’t able to get the lg phone. additionally the event was totally disorganized and chaotic, and some of the people that lined up to the 5th floor cheated and jumped in line (not that it helped them if only 20-30 people got the promo) >:-(

i still want the phone though. the specs are great for an entry level android phone but i will probably wait until after christmas or next year when the price drops more.. or if there is another sale coming up (very unlikely though).

lets officially boycott all LG products, kick them out of the Philippines, we don’t need these @!#$%^&*(()company that fools and take advantage of consumers for publicity,

think of what they did, do you expect a good after sale, support & customer service from them, sa SALE & PROMO palang they try to fool, trick you, what more when you need them for support & service.

  16. ems says:

  17. no new phone says:

actually now that i think about it this may have been a good thing that i didn’t get the phone. a lot of phones look good spec-wise but fall short on actual performance. i may have saved myself some money.

i think i will just wait until sir abe does a proper review of the phone(s) first before deciding what android i will be buying.

this whole experience still leaves a bad taste on my mouth for LG and Nokia (the company/pr dept) though. someone should have put more thought on the promo and its organization.

I was at SM North here’s my blow by blow account
9:30am arrived at SM North Annex, guard told people to line up. This is on the ground floor entrance
10:05am 4th floor nakapila malapit sa LG Store near the escalator. Dito pa lamang naririnig ko na from the chatter ng mga nakapila na di naadvise ng LG ang guards, no coordination, so nagkaroon ng dalawang pila.

10:45am Someone had a brilliant idea to “fix” the line. Once there was movement, people from our line and the other line started a mad dash. Where there was a line became a lump of people. I and most of the people in the line was shocked with this turn of events. I counted like i was the 35th person in line and then i was not in a matter of seconds.

10:50 Approached one of the guards and asked who was his commanding officer. I gave him a piece of my mind and told him this was not how to handle crowd control. Pasalamat kayo walang nasakatan, otherwise kayo ang unang masisisi since mall security and crowd control is your job. You also not move people with out the proper barricades or even ropes to organize the people. Also you should have identified which ones were part of the line and cleared the area before starting to move people and this should be in a coordinated effort.

11:00am Watched the sea of people bite to and claw their way thru the sea of people to come first in line. Guards started segragating the lump into 4 small lumps. After this I shook my head in disbelief and just went home. Waiting for a better organized promo from the other manufacturers like Samsung, HTC, Sony Ericson and probably Cherry. For sure they would have learned from the what history will now call the LG 50% Optimus One Sale Fiasco.

There were a lot of things that aggravated the situation from the people trying to get the phone whom do not want to in line, to mall security that should have markers already upon opening the mall where the people should line up, most imporatantly the organizer, whom did not organize anything, LG.

A lot of people, including me is pissed at LG. Looks like their promo backfired rather than help their image.

The event was an EPIC FAIL.

Ang haba ng pila sa Megall, I came there roughly 11am.

While on the other side of the store, may isang guy na may DSLR at kuha lang ng kuha ng pictures.

Haha.]

  23. Abe, you forgot to mention that in Megamall there were already people in the line even before the Mall officially opened.

The guards themselves said they’re from Fitness First and employees from their other tenants.

    EPIC FAIL.

People are shouting in Megamall LG event “Boycott LG” and “LG means ‘Lg [email protected]′”. Other people were also hitting on Google Android. That’s the sad reality, Android’s image was also hurt because of LG’s epic failure.

Oh btw, I just remembered, other people read LG’s super sale in tabloids and heard it in radios. So why? Why do that when the sale is only 1 hour; [2] their stores can only accomodate a limited number of people; and [3] they will only come out with a limited number of units?

Contrary to your previous post about what LG said that they did not impose any limit to the units, the people from LG Megamall said it themselves = 50. And people are aware themselves that there will be only 50.

No one’s leaving because they want to fight for it vs. the cheaters.

There are so many stories, may nag-away pa nga because an LG employee wants some group of guys to fill-up some paper but the other people there are united in telling that LG employee that those group of guys were never there before. And the LG employee still insisted that these mysterious guys to sign-up.

So what was that all about? Kamag anak? Kaibigan? Favoritism?

I pity those na nadapa, nauntog, nalalag sa escalator nung nagbukas ang mall _officially_, only to find out mahaba na pila sa LG Megamall.

  24. ac7 says:

    Hey Calvin,that’s a great suggestion… =) fortunately i didn’t go to the sale! hehehe
i hope samsung can give some discount for their android phones,i think they do mobile phones much better than nokia&LG! what you think sir abe?? :)

  25. jon dela paz says:

it was purely marketing bullshit for lg. from the start they know lots of people will line up. but hey what they do? they let people go there to line up and then prepare one cashier for hundreds of people? actually i depended on what the lg rep. told you. anyway, i hope this will never happen again. it’s better in nokia store, maaga they distributed stubs to their patrons. those people who were not given the stub just left.

  35. honestconsumer says:

dumating ako dun sa Megamall bago pa nagbukas yung mall, i decided to take my car and dun na ako sa parking entrance dumaan since it’ll be closer sa LG store. At around 10am, the guards let us in and everyone from the gates were running. By the time we got to the Nokia and LG shops, there were already 2 lines of around 30-40+ people. We had no idea which line was for LG or Nokia so nagtanong pa kami. I realized that those people who were lined up ahead of us were already inside the mall even before the mall hours since relaxed na sila and hindi tumakbo like all of who waited at the entrance. We tried to get clear instructions from the people from LG but we were just given vague information on how they will distribute the units. Hell, they can’t even give us an idea of how many units they have ready for the sale. I mean every LG personnel there should at least have an idea. There were so many things they could have done to prevent the chaos. The reaction from sites and forums should have already given them idea that hundreds of consumers are planning to get units. i think i was 100th dun sa pila but from the time i got there up until 3pm, hindi gumalaw yung line. they failed big time!

LG = LOKOHAN AT [email protected]!!!!

  38. Shame says:

In Davao, only 40 people get to purchase. There were around 200 in line for LG, mas marami pa sa Nokia, tapos magkatabi pa yung stores nila. I was in line at 10:45, then somewhere around 11, someone said that only 50 items are available for the sale. But we don’t mind, I think I was at 70. At 11, they were not even giving out priority numbers, some people said surprise lang daw ang distribution so no one will leave the line. At around 1pm, they said only 30 phones lang ang i-distribute, everyone was so angry, imagine falling in line for hours tapos they will tell you only 30 phones lang pwede bilhin? Yung isang nanay pinagalitan yung announcer, dapat daw we should been informed para di na kami pumila. Which is a good point. Then again they announced it will depend on how many phones will be accommodated for the duration. Yung manang sabi nya the items will be open and tested in from of the representative, which only means that they intend to release a limited number of phones.

I only had fun because I get to scold a guy who talked non-sense para lang makasingit.

    FAIL!

nung may guard na nagattempt na ayusin e nakaalis na ako sa line.pawis na pawis ako me mga kalmot, nawala dogtag ko.then i decided to get the unit on 12 mos @145++ kasi anniv gift ko nga sa wife ko eto.my brother in law and dad in law (nakapila sa nokia #35 sya so nakakuha sya c6) ay kumuha na lang din ng installment.

I’ve so wanted an Android phone for such a long time, and thanks to this sale, it fitted right into my budget. :) So very very much THANKS to you. It’s just so sad how the service was quite terrible. It took roughly 5 minutes for each transactions, and for the first 30 mins or so only 1 counter was open. Very disappointing. :|

    Good evening guys,

Guys! Cool down! Those seeking LGs expulsion from the Philippines means less investment in the Philippines. I just don’t get why you have to say vulgar words just to catch attention.

  70. It got pretty bad out there (SM Megamall), and I was seeing middle fingers in the air when the staff were talking.

I was expecting a low amount of units were going to move, but I didn’t expect them to use every delaying tactic in the book to delay purchases from customers. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth when you advertise about something like this and cheat your way through the time limit.

Having never bought an LG phone in my life, this looks like it will cement the very thought of an LG phone away for good. And I was just helping out a friend get his first Android device.

    – additional observation: naawa ako dun na galing pa sa malayo pero mas nauna pa sa akin na sa mismong labas na mismo ng door. sana dapat di ganito ang ginawa ng lg if magpopromote sila ng produkto. nung una okay sya but during the sale period na wala na marami na ang nadismaya. may nakakuha nga pero mas marami ang disappointed and dissed lg. i’m not sour graping, but if the aim of lg is to bring smartphones to the masses they should have not limit the time of purchase. hahai talaga i thought i could experience android but nope. i will just continue saving for an htc or galaxy s and purchase it next year.

  76. Jonai says:

THE SALE OF LG AND NOKIA MUST NEVER BE REPEATED. Shame on them.

Lol have you guys ever heard of the brands blackberry and apple? Nuff said. You want something, work hard for it. Shame on that company, its like feeding hungry hyenas. If you really want something worth the money go for ip4, blackberry, or nokia n97.

  86. XXIX says:

I was there too when Megamall opened. Few minutes later, thousand of people already lined up to avail those phones. Around 10:10 AM, we already aborted and decided to just enjoy the day and watch Megamind 3D.

  87. Lawrence says:

The worst thing about the whole thing is that they still allowed more and more people to wait on the line even though it would be impossible for them to accommodate those people within an hour. Yes, we know that they only have an hour for the promo. But they didn’t stop the growth of the line.

Sana manlang they computed the possible number of people like what Sir Yuga did on his previous post, counted the number of folks on the line, then advised the ones after that they might not be accommodated anymore. Para the folks on the line can decide if they want to stay or not.

Pero, nothing like that happened. Some of the LG folks even stated “stay lang kayo sa line, maaacommodote naman namin kayo.” Paasa, amf.

Wel, as everyone is saying here, bad publicity is still a publicity. Still hoping that LG will make up for this mayhem/chaos/fiasco/possible company destroyer

  88. Jeff Jularbal says:

    Very Dissapointing kanina…

  89. XXIX says:

By the way, if ever they’re planning to sell limited items, it’s better to just make it “first 100 promo” or so instead of within a limited time frame.

  90. LokoGago & Bokia says:

EPIC FAIL LG..

  92. Mark says:

LG Management Sucks… (those in charge of the event at the very least *categorically evil*)…

I was early (8AM)… Then when the doors were opened people gushed in and ran upstairs (even on the wrong escalator) only to reach the store… And when I got there, a line already exists which I found strange considering that I was one of the first to pass the doors.

However, the line was not a big deal(for me at least). What really got me flaming was how they handled it !!

What happened (aside from the mentioned in the article):
    > We constantly asked how many units will be given, they constantly say that it’s unknown (wtf!! can’t they count!)and they might extend the time (never happened).
    > If only a limited number of units are given, then why must they constantly say that “please stay, don’t leave your line, you ‘might’ be given because it ‘might’ extend”. (why do we need to stay there? to be taken photographs of!?! are they running a publicity campaign we are not aware of?!). And another thing… NO STUBS!! (a thing that could make the problem less worse… including the issue of people cutting through lines… *see comments on Nokia)
    > They could’ve (should have!) cut the line early on… they wasted a LOT of our time.
    > LG Employees there -> No Help… at ALL (one even “allegedly” allowed a group of people to cut in the line)
    > They are “insisting” and “persuading” buying customers to open and inspect the units (including booting up android) which takes a lot of time (which i believe is clearly intended.. supporting the first part of this comment ), hence, slow moving line.
    > Fitness First Employees in front of the line (employees in malls can come in earlier than 10AM)

I speak for everyone who came there when I say that… “LG Sucks!” it truly does… and IF you had been there you would feel the same way!!

It is actually my first time to come to this kind of sale and I got extremely disappointed… I never realized this would happen. And now I am really discouraged to come to such a sale… ever…

My agenda tommorrow, I’ll be buying a Samsung Galaxy 5. Sorry LG…

The good side of this story is that I met great people who would eventually share the same sentiment that I have ;)

PLUS: I love all the moms/palengkera ladies nag-iskandalo para sa amin lahat… I really appreciate that, in a very odd way.. O.o

  93. LokoGago & Bokia says:

i was at sm megamall earlier today to purchase from nokia. it was really a big big fail for their part. THEY WERE VERY VERY VERY DISORGANIZED! SHAME ON THEM! ESPECIALLY DUN SA OIC NG NOKIA MEGAMALL. we were actually questioning them how is it possible that as early as 8.30 am they already gave away stubs, so para san pa yung 1pm-3pm na given time diba? so we were there haggling for them to dispense more stubs so in short pumayag sila pero ang bobong OIC (sorry for the term ah) he went out and gave away stubs dun sa mga bagong pumila to think na maraming tao ang nagrereklamo sa loob kasi maaga din sila dun. they were really very incompitent!!!

  113. Godofredo says:

I was there before SM Megamall opened. Parang stampede the moment na nagbukas sa may supermarket. Takbuhan paakyat mula 1st floor hanggang 4th floor. Ambilis humaba ng pila. I was there since 10am expecting they would be giving the stub indicate here at yugatech and LG FB page but no. Pinagmukhang tanga ang mga tao kakahintay sa wala. If they have given the stubs at the first hour, eh di yung mga nasa hulihan na hindi nabigyan, hindi na sana naghintay. They wasted our time. I will never ever buy an LG product in my life. That’s a promise! Good for them, bad publicity is still publicity. Hope they got the publicity they wanted.

  116. JKisaragi says:

    @applefanboy

    Oo nga eh. Nonsense.

My friend and I were there at SM Megamall (although we arrived a bit late) and upon seeing the Nokia store and LG booth, and the number of people that lined up from 4th floor to basement, we knew it was a hopeless case.

Not everyone can assess the situation at hand properly, so that turd of a man called Alexander Redondo should have gagged his sissy mouth to stop all the crap coming out of it. Sheesh!

Also, I believe there was this intention to deceive the customers. With one cashier counter for both LG and Nokia, dun pa lang you’d know they’re not willing to sell that much units of the P500 and C6.
If it were really an all-out, giveaway sale, they would have maximized their number of employees and available counters.

Opinion lang naman. Anyhow, for you guys who lined up, wag po masyadong padala sa emotion. Hopefully magkaroon pa ng bigger and better events in the near future. :)

  117. lemon says:

NEVER NEVER buy any LG product.. for LIFE

  119. Marco says:

we lined up for 5 hours! The selling process just sucks and terribly slow! they sell 1 unit at a time in LG SM Cebu, which they can do it 2 units at a time or even 3 if they want because they have enough man power! I think they just don’t really want to give lots of unit for that price! I wonder kung meron pang bibili nyan for 13000 after this chaotic even! LG Promo! EPICFAIL!

  120. jologs says:

@asfd – sino ba yang l3ch3ng alexander na yan????? Nakakabwiset ang mga post!!! Kaasar.

  121. primo1 says:

Ahh the demoing part… When it was my time to demo the unit, palagi ko sinasabi sa lalake dun na, “ok na yan, ok na yan.” I was really rushing them to just handout my unit so I can leave immediately. I just asked them if they have replacement warranty so I can just thoroughly check the unit at home instead. I really feel the frustration of the people who were in line especially sa mga pang 20-35 na naka-pila sa loob.

  122. asfd says:

    @JKisaragi

yup right! hmmm i guess lets not boycott LG at all, kase so far sa mga nakita kong reviews and videos maganda talaga ang lg optimus one for a mid-range smart phone… yung event lang talaga ang disorganize.. sana inayos n lng nila ng mabuti….kase look kung ok yung event ok din syempre ung feedbback… then marami pang bibili ng lg phones… eh hindi epic fail so they will blame it to the phone company and not in the event itself…lesson learned yan ng lg…

  124. LG SUCKS says:

BOBO ANG LG CONCEPT STORE SA SM NORTH.

It was around 1-2 pm that the lines the guards had created became obscure. We did not know where were the lines leading to those “ten stubs” that the LG management was giving. At that time, I asked the guards to fix the lines before the promo starts. This was so, there will be a fair and organized way of getting inside the store.

Suddenly, the lines became more chaotic. And when I talked to one of the guards, he told me that the LG management did not coordinate with them regarding this event. And that they did not expect this number of people participating in this misleading fiasco.

Apparently, the lg management did not expect this number of people either. When my friend and I went to teh store the night before to get some information (i.e. regarding the number of units, the system etc.), we were faced by a rude saleslady who did not give us any information that we might need. She just said, “we are not expecting anything.” What a way to plan and handle an event!

And around 15 mins before the event. I also talked with one of the guys from LG who is giving out flyers. I asked him to fix the lines. And just like a typical person who doesn’t want to assume any responsibility, he put the responsibility of crowd control to the guards. He said that the guards had fixed the lines and if he meddles with that, then things might get more confusing. I said yes, that maybe the case, but if “HE would COORDINATE with them regarding crowd control, There probably be a smoother and more organized flow of crowd going in the store.” Nakakahiya.

So much for what the LG saleslady was saying – that they also desire to give those who are waiting in line their excellent service. I just wonder, where was that excellent service that they proclaim to be giving?

  125. Joshua M says:

Well alam ko na ganito mangyayari so i said meh… nuod nalang ako ng NFS! XD kahit sa C6 di na ko umasa pag tingin ko ulet naka lagay “no more stock for c6” at bumili nalang ako ng earbuds para masaya ako.

  126. leeto says:

it was really a planned to delay the whole proceedings, just that para lokohin ang tao.

  127. I was supposed to buy since I shattered my phone a couple of days ago, but I saw the posts of people at 11am. My God. Totally not worth it. I went to GH nalang and bought a better Android phone. Yay :)

  128. Pepe says:

I was successful in obtaining the Optimus One at half price, so I just want to share my insight.LG was totally disorganized during the sale. They only had 2 cashiers open the whole time, and these cashiers were processing things VERY SLOWLY! It is true that there were only about 20-40 units sold in each mall, which is why I feel that what LG had done was not well thought of. Mixed emotions of fear, guilt, and anger coursed through my veins as I could hear the booing of irate customers whose frustration I can understand.

In defense of LG, they couldn’t have extended their promo even if they wanted to, because their DTI permit would not allow them to. Still, it would have been good if there had been at least 5 cashiers in each store, and a separate area for purchasing and testing! They could have made it in such a way that people would simply pay and get the receipt from 2 pm – 3pm (which would fall under their DTI permit), then go on to a separate area to claim their unit and test it thoroughly!

LG may have gained media mileage but they have lost a very important thing; consumer respect.

  129. whatif says:

  136. Arvee says:

Well, let me share my indifferent story.

    [CH.1: THE ENTRANCE]
8:30 AM, we arrived at SM Annex (at the 2nd floor entrance). To our surprise, there were 50+ people lining up in front of the mall’s entrance door already. At around 9, the line started to get longer, pati yung pila sa ground floor entrance.

    [CH.2: RAZED RACE]
The guards tried to inspect and let each person pass one by one, pero madami talagang sumisingit, so they decided to stop the crowd from entering. After closing the doors, the guards seemed to have a small briefing on what to do. They suddenly opened all entrance doors, removed the inspection table and let the crowd gush in to the mall. Everyone was competing with each other in racing to the 4th floor. Pag nadapa ka, sorry ka. I found numbers of pair-less footwear. But there was no time to spare and no time to stare.

[CH.3: FACING THE DOORS OF HEAVEN]
We finally managed to fall into the correct line (madami kasing pila na wala naman talagang patutunguhan). I tried to count for our current position, which was 72-75 approximately. What a sigh of relief especially when the PA said “Marami po ang mabibigyan ng Optimus One with Google.” By that, we were assuming they would sale out at least a hundred units.

    [CH.4: MISLEADING GUARDS]
The lines may be long, but there were no incidents of tulakan, yet. People in line were very calm, except for those who are looking for their lost friend or relative. Around 10:30 AM, one guard (could be the guards’ officer) decided to shorten the line by making a zigzag queue. But it went horribly wrong. By the time they’ve bent the lines, everyone started to run and push, making the straight line a pool of shouting mobs.

    [CH.5: THEY TRIED AND TRIED…]
Bouncers and extra guards came out to the rescue. They tried to calm the people but they failed. They tried to make a straight line out of the shouting crowd, but again, they failed. People started to get mad and blamed the guards. They have no other excuse except for “Inaayos na po namin ang pila, ang kailangan lang po natin ay magbigayan.” At around 12 Noon, the line was albeit better, the people started to cooperate and became quiet (maybe because they, or we, started to get hungry after 4 hours).

    [CH.6: SINGIT]
Around that period there were people asking their “ka-rellebos” or their company to buy food for them, thus the start of “singitan”. Singit dito, singit dun, every minute nalang may mapagsasabihang wag sumingit. Every succesful singits na mapaalis, the crowd was cheering as if they’re seeing Pacquiao punching his opponent on the face. The LG’s PA started announcing their guidelines for the promo.

“Magbibigay po kami ng sampung stub numbers.”
“Pero hindi pa po kami pwedeng magbigay dahil 2 PM pa po ang start ng promo.”
“We will let in 3 persons at a time, para po maging maayos ang transaction.”
“Mayroong 3 stations sa loob ng store.”
“First, to show you a demo of the LG Optimus One with Google.”
    “Second, for payment.”
“And third, for checking your package.”

By that time, we started regretting falling in line. We thought there were 3 cashiers. Instead, it became 3 stations. We started to lose hope while LG started to give out the numbers.

    [CH.7: …BUT THEY FAILED]
While giving the first 10 people in line their numbers, people started to chant “NO DEMO! NO DEMO!” Everyone wanted them to skip the demo. Why would “new to the smartphone world” customers fall in line for that sale anyway? After finishing the first batch, they started to mobilize the line. But unfortunately, the crowd started to push even more. The guards (including the one inside a telephone company’s stall) wasn’t able to control the situation anymore. People were asking “Bakit po sila eh nandun na? Nauna naman kami?” The guard responded “Pasensya na po kayo, di na natin sila makontrol eh. Tsaka di na kayo aabot, 20 minutes nalang po.”

We started to walk away from that one day, one hour, one chance and one fiasco event.

    THE BLAME TAPE:
    1. LG should have coordinated with the security officials of the mall at least 2 days earlier before the sale.

    2. LG and the security officials should have at least put a line divider (the one we see in banks, accounting offices, cashiers, don’t know what it’s called) so people will not be lost in line.

    3. THE GUARDS (yes, I’m throwing all my anger and bitterness to them) SHOULD HAVE A SYSTEMATIC PLAN. KUNG MAAYOS NA, WAG NANG PAKIALAMAN.

I can’t blame LG that much. They have followed the mechanics all right. I just don’t like the way they handled this event. It seems like rushed to plan this event.

Anyway, during the 2-3pm sale, HTC and Cherry Mobile (I guess they have the same distributor) put up their own sale too. HTC Smart and CM Eclipse for 6,490. They succeeded with this sale, in my opinion. I saw a lady going out from HTC with 8 new HTC Smart units. The store was full too. The CM store was full, although I haven’t seen much Eclipse phones going out from the store.

After the 3pm LG Optimus One Sale, they’ve put up another promo again. 50% on selected LG phones. Until 8 PM, the line for the promo was still long. I guess they did this so they could take back their losses from the O1 units they sold on sale.

Anyway, congrats to those who managed to buy a unit. You people are really lucky.

Now, I’ll test my luck with lotto naman.

  137. A says:

@DUH, and all people who are blaming the consumers:

your argument is only applicable for those consumers who came late enough to see the long lines and still attempted to line up. EVEN PEOPLE WHO HAD A CHANCE were not able to succeed because of LG’s poor handling of the sales.

  138. lehboy says:

i was there before 10am, di pa bukas sm megamall, mga 9:40 am already in line sa LG. pang mga 60 or 70 na ata ako.

I didn’t even get one. ganun katindi.

I forgot what his name was but he was #49 on the paper where LG had us write down all our info (pang #48 ako)

BOYCOTT! isang malaking false advertisement.!

  141. Everyone is entitled to impart their feedback about this issue. Some of my friends are there hoping na makakuha sila ng android phone for only 6k+. Kahit na meron na silang phone e gusto nila masubukan yung android thingy na yan, pra makita na din yung difference nya with iOS4 and other OS out there. I hope everyone learned their lessons. Ganyan talaga ang buhay, accept it na lang and move on. Peace!

To all who were able to avail of the promos, congrats, for those who missed out, i feel you..

As for me, I did my due diligence yesterday and asked both LG and Nokia about the promo, learned that they only had a limited number of units for this promo, decided not to go push thru with my plans to line up for this and instead order na lang online for the phone that I really want =)

If masaya ang LG kasi dinumog ng tao ang “EPIC FAIL na promo nila”, well guess what? We, your customers are very disappointed. All the hatred in facebook, youtube, yugatech are strong evidences of what I’m trying to say. What ever UBERLY NEGATIVE COMMENT YOU RECEIVE, LG, YOU DESERVE IT. 155. anne says:

seriously hoping to bash and crash LG sale at mega today. total chaos!!! thousands fall in line, staffs cant even bother to “cut off” the line and tell people to STOP falling in line cause they dont have enough units to sell. they just ignore and let people fall in line and sold 15 (estimated) units out of thousands of people waiting and hoping. why do buyers need demo? they are there cause they KNOW how to use a phone and WANTS IT!!! this is delaying tactics! why ask people to fall in line? so you can tell nokia in the face that you have longer lines compared to them??? what did the staffs get? death threat?

tapos san san pa advertisement! para san pa??? ilang tao sa metro manila at ilan bbentahan nyo? ilan ba nabenta nyo? tapos sasabihin nyo you guys never imagined many people will come. HELLO?? HALF THE PRICE?!?!?! you cant even explain yourself. people ask the staff questions yet they themselves dont know the answer.

then the line system is not even correct at all. we were there 10AM, the line went straight to basement then up again. yet bakit nauna pa ung mga tao sa basement kesa samin nakapila ng 10AM. i asked the lady on the line and they were there 1PM. yet nauna pa siya samin. WHY?!?!

Too bad because on paper it was actually a really nice promo with a good objective: Android for the masses.

And honestly I don’t believe that they’re selling this “palugi” [below cost]. I’m pretty sure their gross margins/gross profits aren’t below 50% of their sales/selling price.

Even if they have 20 people manning the event they could not handle that many people, the only reason that I’m buying it was because of the discount, I would not buy that in its regular price. Good thing for me I did not waste my time queuing because I know they could not accommodate all prospective buyers.

LG people are one BIG FAT LIARS too, imagine saying that the number of unit to be sold are unlimited, only to find out the sad truth….

What I freaking hate most was the way they are enticing gullible would be buyers to instead post for pictures with the korean mascot for a chance to win in the raffle, crap I said to the sales lady that I’m not interested in the raffle, I all I want is to buy the freaking phone at a discount.

To the brains of this marketing ploy, kudos for a job well done, you have elicited that much needed attention to your product, however I’m sorry to inform you that most of the would be buyers and that includes me, are only interested because of the discount, nothing more, nothing less. If you think we would buy it a regular price, you must be freaking dreaming!

You won’t know the feeling unless you were there. And you won’t know how anticipation turns into frustration when groups of people are mishandled. As for the people lined up too, a little discipline also should have alleviated some of the tension there.

Let them (well maybe that includes me) whine for now, for it releases our frustrations. Ultimately it is just a phone, and there can be better opportunities for it, but LG really is at fault here.

KOREAN COMPANY LG FOOLED BUYERS! WE DEMAND APOLOGIES! BOYCOTT LG!

I swear never to buy any LG product again! Why? Because they are the most sadistic and moronic bunch of people!

I’ve seen larger number of crowd during sales events. But this one tops it all in terms of heartlessness and stupidity. They could have given out number tags to the people who lined up when the store opened at 10am. But of course they didn’t, they want those hundreds of people to continue standing there, tired and hungry. I could not verify this, but I overheard some people saying that LG wants the big crowd to make it appear that their promotion was a success. Biggest bullshit I’ve heard. Because of this, I would tell to all my Facebook, Twitter friends and relatives to boycott LG products. Yeah, it was a success. In terms of letting people know how power-hungry, incompetent, moronic LG is, and forever erase any goodwill LG brand has with me (and a thousand more who also waited).

The sale ran for an hour, and you’d wonder why only 20 people managed to buy? Because, even if the buyers don’t want to, the sales assistants have to demonstrate the cellphone’s capabilities, like charging. Really, charging? People went there because they are well-aware of what they are buying. And basic features that are common to any cellphone could have been skipped. Or at least LG could have done the demo 4 hours earlier when people where just standing outside! Now if that is not insincerity on LG’s part to sell, then I don’t know what that is. We were fooled!

Even though organizers kept reminding us that sale would happen from 2-3pm, they also mentioned that “madami sa inyo ang mabibigyan ngayon”, we didn’t ask, they volunteered that information. Naturally, I hoped that being relatively near the start of queue, I could bring home a cellphone. No matter how we Filipinos love discounts, we are educated, rules-following citizens. You raised our expectations high, didn’t properly instill cutoffs despites earlier pleadings, meliciously set us up for this, and sucked our energy dry today till we are devoid of civility. And for this, I felt personally deeply violated.

In retrospect, LG’s actual plan obviously was to sell only a few units of Optimus that day. Hence, they made the buying process more tedious than usual. When the clock strikes past the designated sale hour, they hoped that people would still be interested in their product and purchase other models. Nice plan, except that you made it in our dignity’s expense!

Now, LG, spare me the excuse that you don’t expect the turnout to be this big. Advertisements in major daily, radio shows and public transportation newspapers, and probably others I’m not aware of yet? Come on! Any corporate newbie knows that marketing plans are submitted, revised, reworked before any approval. So it was in their well-planned execution that only about 20 units would be sold. They rolled out all the ads and we Filipinos took the bait! We were lured into this sadistic chaos. It’s only right that a decent apology from LG should be given! We deserve better companies, with heart.

  176. raymond says:

Guys, relax lang. For those who were not able to purchase the phone, don’t be bitter. You knew that lines are gonna be long, and not everybody can be accommodated. But it was your choice to line up and take the risk. Pero sugal talaga yang mga ganyang event. I think the reason why phones are opened and activated, is to avoid scalpers who will sell them as brand new. And you did not really risk anything except your time.

It’s just a cellphone. It’s not a matter of life and death to have an LG Optimus. People went there not because they NEED it but because they WANT it. You can’t compare this to NFA Rice because food is a necessity and this is a luxury item.

And if you really need the phone, you can still buy it at a market price of 12,990, which I think is a fairly reasonable price. And for 7K, you can already buy a good cellphone with Wi-Fi. (Nokia C3, Samsung Corby Wi-Fi)

No need to boycott LG who’s just promoting their product.

  177. anonymous says:

I really thought I would buy the Optimus One for the original price in case I didn’t get one on this sale, but after seeing what happened in the sale, I changed my mind. I am pissed with how LG has handled this situation.

Unlike Nokia, LG didn’t go straight to the point with the people who waited in line. Instead, LG decided to constantly “fix” and “organize” the lines in the picture posted above as if they still had plans of selling the product to them. The fact is, though, that none of those in the picture above got the phone. The only people who got the phone were the ones right in front the LG store, which was probably composed of less than 30 people (not in the picture above). That being said, the issue is far more than LG just being disorganized or unprepared. It is about LG being completely dishonest with the people. They KNEW they would only have ONE cashier. They KNEW they would DEMO the phone to the buyers (As a matter of fact, they purposely did it to stall people). HENCE, they KNEW that ONLY A HANDFUL of the Optimus One units could be sold. LG deliberately took advantage of the people. Amidst the fact that they KNEW they can only sell to a HANDFUL, they DID NOT cut the lines short like Nokia did. Cheers to Nokia for not being the attention whore LG was (although their promo was obviously an attempt to steal some of LG’s thunder too). Shame on LG for deliberately fooling those in line (by rearranging them and making them sign “contact sheets” as if it was going to change anything).

I must admit LG’s Optimus One is truly a competitively priced product, but it is against my conscience to even think of contributing to the company that was behind this fiasco. I choose not to support a company that deliberately fools its customers. This is an issue that goes far beyond just not being able to give everyone phones (of course that won’t happen because of the multitudes of people who went to the event). This is an issue of honesty and credibility. Hence, even if the LG Optimus One might be a good deal even at it’s full price, I have decided not to buy it. Making money off your customers is just business, but making a fool out of your potential customers is shameless.

  185. anonymous says:

I really thought I would still buy the Optimus One for the original price just in case I didn’t get one on this sale, but after seeing what happened in the sale, I changed my mind.

They KNEW they would DEMO the phone to the buyers (As a matter of fact, it was as if they purposely did it to stall people).

Kudos to Nokia for honoring their potential customers. Shame on LG for deliberately fooling them.

  186. raymond says:

    @taz

I understand the frustration. So near yet so far… But come to think of it, you did not shell out money for LG. Relax lang tol. Large crowds are a reality especially with that price drop.

LG already lost I think 1.5M for such an event. Di na siguro nila trabahong mag-ayos ng pila kasi they’re already losing money.

  187. Chino says:

was also there and i must say, mukhang disorganized ang LG well, at least sa nokia eh kahit may onting tension, talagang di na nila pinaasa yung ibang tao

lesson learned from this event: if you want to boycott LG, go ahead, i know how it feels. If you don’t want to buy their products, it’s your choice.

Antay nalnag sa iba pang sales after…. i’m sure meron pa yan :)

I’m one of the few who got the unit, all I can say is “patience is a virtue” talaga. It was a horrible experience and I wouldn’t do anything like that again! Nakakaawa ang mga tao, good thing I was 17th in line kaya nakaabot pa ako.

As for the unit, first impressions, very responsive, though it feels a lil’ heavy (comparing to my Nokia 5800), panalo talaga ang Froyo 2.2.

I feel pity for those na hindi nakakuha kanina (sana tamaan ng karma ang mga may pasimuno nito). :-(

    (I’m from Davao btw)

  191. yhabe30 says:

I was so disappointed talaga na hindi ako nakabili ng optimus one pero meron after sale ang LG. Disappointed man ako na hindi makakuha ng optimus one nakakuha naman ako ng LG Renoir original price na 21,000 slashed down to 9,900 8MP pa camera… android lang ng habol ng tao dun ako discount na malaki so kht papaano worth it parin pila ko… :)

  192. ihateLG says:

@raymond, i guess you weren’t there at the event hence there’s no way you’d understand.

i went to SM today prepared to come home empty-handed. but any marketing promotion has a target, given the mechanics, rules they will implement in-house, etc (that we as customers don’t know until the start of sale). the system they imposed could not have accommodated more than 50 max in one hour.

yet, LG let a thousand people waiting, standing, pushing and shoving in queue for at least 5 hours, resulting in a lady collapsing and few got hurt?

surely, there must be a better way to promote products, don’t you think?

  193. eag says:

I passed by the cyberzone at SM Cebu at about 2:30pm kanina to peek at the LG and nokia sales. There was a line surrounding the LG booth, but it wasn’t that bad and didn’t even extend beyond that area. Nothing unruly, and everything looked calm. I didn’t bother lining up though since I already read that they were only going to sell about 50 units. No idea how many people actually got a unit though.

Sa nokia naman, there was no line but there were a handful of people inside the nokia store so I went in and asked about the sale. The salesgirl apologized to me and said they were only selling 30 units first-come first-served, and the list was already full. So the Nokia shop did a better job by not keeping people waiting for no reason. The handful in the store were just the ones who made it onto the list of 30.

  194. lovesTo hate LG says:

@aaron: i agree. HTC is far way better than this cheap shit.

  198. lovesTo hate LG says:

I was there around 3-4 PM. From what i gather, Nokia also had some problems of their own. And, yes, some people went home disappointed and angry at the store. Particularly those who were inside before 1 PM. The customers in the tail end also had to endure lining up until 6PM because of a long delay in the releasing of units to be sold.

But here’s the thing, Nokia increased their stock allocation from 50 to something around 113 units for the sale. I also saw some representatives talking to some clients and listening to their complaints and frustrations. And since there was a delay, they also adjusted the sale time period and extended it to accommodate the people they already gave numbers to.

So at least they tried to make amends. They even absorbed more losses by selling more units than what they initially committed to and advertised.

  205. iwasthere says:

Disclosure: I’m an authorized Nokia dealer. But i saw what i saw and i know what i know. I give it a 7/10 event.

  206. ihateLG says:

Just to give everyone a different qualitative perspective:

-Supposedly savings to consumers: about 80 units sold in all 4 LG concept stores * 6500 discount= P520,000
*50% of retail price is probably very near their factory cost

With that amount of “consumer savings”, LG has absolutely spent more in advertising fees in major newspapers, radio shows and other media. and more on additional staff expenses, bouncers, security, and (gasps!) sound system!

-What we as consumers spent: 4000 people X 200 pesos (for lunch, transportation fee/gasoline & parking fee) = P800,000

-Effort put in by 4,000 people to go to their stores yet were made to stand for a good 6 hours and few had ulcers acted up because of long wait= NO AMOUNT THAT LG CAN AFFORD

-Opportunity cost for 4,000 people who could have spent their day/ half of their day on other more productive things had they been informed properly by LG= NO AMOUNT THAT LG CAN AFFORD

    -Losing LG brand’s integrity- PRICELESS

now, LG, you think this is a solid marketing promotion? what you were thinking?!

They can call it providing excellent customer service all they want but I dare call it customer service laced with malice. After this who would believe they did not do it to purposely consume time and slow the process so they could release the least amount of units in an hour? What they should have done is to make it known to the consumers their company policy on returns and warranties not insist that demos cannot be skipped as it is a required step in the process of buying an Android phone.”

LG put people’s lives at risk? nobody forced you to fall in line. and the mechanics was, sale for 1 hour. Malinaw. Parang basketball lang yan. Pushing and shoving, it’s all part of the game. Be a good sport…

  211. Jigs says:

I was able to get an LG Optimus One, however I do agree that the event was gravely disorganized. A number of people were able to cut into the line and even after I pointed this out to the bouncers and the LG personnel, they just said that they can’t do anything about it. To counter my objections they said that not to worry since I have a stub and was assured of a unit. But the point was it was unfair to the five or so people waiting in line that should have been there instead of those people. I discovered later that one of those people had connections with the security.

It was unfair for LG to give false hope to a lot people. They should have limited it to a 100 people or so with the advisory that not all may be able to get a unit. As it was, they let thousands line up even if it was impossible to accomodate everyone given the 1 hour limit.

As for the people there who kept complaining about the one hour limit, it was clearly stated on the fliers with the other mechanics of the sale.

I used my Fitness First pass to get in the mall a little earlier. Some people think this to be unfair but I would like to think of it as using an advantage.

To those people who are very angry and felt cheated by LG, I understand how you feel, however I don’t think you should hate LG for an incredible promo as evidenced by the turn-out. We can curse them for being disorganized and giving some false reassurances but most of these failings can be attributed to inadequencies of the staff.

I would have not hated LG even if I did not get the Optimus One at half price. A little disappointed, yes, but I would have gotten one at 30% off. I’d still consider it a steal. I really like this phone.

We need LG to fuel competition. Remember that they were the first to release a cheap touch screen phone in the Philippines with the Cookie.

@RAYMOND Did we beg LG to have a sale like this? WFT, of course NOT!!! Its their initiative so normally people will go and buy!

its not a question here of whether or not LG has the obligation to do this kind of promo/sale right and organized…

the question here is did they do it right???
    OBVIOUSLY NOT!!!

  215. laben8 says:

first of, thanks kay sir yuga for posting about this event. it was on your blog that i knew of this event even before they had ads or posters in print.

being one of the hard working filipinos out there, we surely would want this too good of a deal. others would want to make profit out of it, but for me personally i would like to try out android.

so i was one of those who went and took a chance at it, and got up early and went to SM North. There are already many comments stories detailing what happened there afterwards. so i won’t really say that here.

maybe i could focus more on what failed and what should have been.

    1. LG failed to inform SM management about this. The security guards who would be in charge were shock from 10AM. The sale was for 2PM and they did not know what to do from opening the doors of the mall. And they thought it was just an ordinary weekend. And for sure there would be running.

    2. OK so you fall in line. Me I was estimating probably 70-80 people in front of me. I know it was maybe far off. but you’ll tell yourself let see what happens. Then came epic fail #2 LG salesperson announce that numbered stub would be given at 2PM. That’s just plain stupid. If you are getting problems now with crowd control, you should have given numbers away at this time, say maybe 100 or something. If you would have done that you could have save the 101st person upto maybe the 1000th person the waste of a day that you would have.

    3. Oh after that LG rep would give hourly update of all the crap, that you already know. Plus the one I like the most, “we are not violating any of the promos mechanics”. In print, based on the ads, you probably are not. But LG also epic failed in telling people, hey you’re on number say 30, you probably don’t have a chance at getting that phone at 50% i suggest you go home, or if you really want it just buy it at 100%.

Personally, i would probably estimate around 50-60 an hour sold cellphones in that hour. If it was without demos and checking. Heck even sir yuga suggested this.

But even before this event I think LG decided ok with sell only 30 of these cellphones at half the price.
guess what LG, if you planned to sell only 30 of it you should have told those hundreds of people in line about it and put that thing on your ad.

I think it was a lie not to put that on the ad. instead putting the one hour time frame that people would get to hope just maybe people with decency would spend just 30 seconds to get a unit, but LG did not intend that to happened in the first place so they purposely let around at least 3 minutes per customer. Thus you are approximately left with only 20 people buying the unit at “lugi” price.

Personally, I may or may not boycott LG, but certainly because of this event I am not buying your damn phone. Even if you intend to do a 30% sale later on. You just pissed hundreds of your potential customers. And to say you have good products, my mom owns an LG LCD TV.

But you deceived your customers like this. I am sorry, you will get what you deserved. I earnestly believe if you said you were only selling first 20 or 30 units only. You wouldn’t have the problem of crowd control. Peope would already know whether they can have it or not and if we don’t it’s OK. It’s not like we have a choice.

To those who got your LG Optimus One P500 at 50% off congratulations to you, i hope you got it buy running and really really waking up early. To those who many others who didn’t it’s ok, as they said you did not lost anything you still have your 7k with you. It would still be a merry Christmas, just maybe Samsung would give a sale and do a better job and then and there LG would sucked up big time.

Oh LG just a reminder. If you think you can bully the buying market into something like this you can’t. In the end, we are (ooops were) your customers.

Ok, enough hating, I am looking forward to our Pambansang Kamao beat up another Mexican.

    Merry Christmas everyone.

  216. bleep says:

guys, obviously raymond is an internet troll, just seeking comments and attention. after the long day we just spent being fooled by LG, we don’t need to waste energy on another useless thing. let’s just ignore him.

that having been said, LG has no respect for their customers. a company like that should definitely be boycotted. instead of being thankful for the astounding reception and participation of people in their promo sale, they disrespected us, and wasted our time and effort. a company who treats their customers like shit does not deserve to be around. let’s all boycott until LG philippines is forced to close.

the worst thing, in my opinion, is that they BLATANTLY REFUSED to cut the line despite everyone insisting that they do, and the fact that they even said that they “might extend the one hour” and that they had a “huge number of units.” disgusting publicity.

  217. mcast says:

“I used my Fitness First pass to get in the mall a little earlier. Some people think this to be unfair but I would like to think of it as using an advantage.”

If you’re a Fitness First member, I’m pretty sure you’re one of the few people who can afford this phone at full price [or even a better, more expensive one], as opposed to probably 95% of the people who lined up who were only going to buy the Optimus One because they can only afford it at this 50% discounted price point. IMO it’s no different from having connections with the security guards or the sales staff. That’s “using an advantage” too, I would say.

Just sayin’. Opinion lang po. Peace. :D

Ayon sa mga nakakita she was there before the store opening and made it to the line.

Kaya ang masasabi ko sa LG, your event is such an epic fail because it has caused fatality!

  226. sodz_XP says:

yeah heard that story too. first,i thought it was a rumor but when i heard that this is really true i was so frightened. this even more brutal than the MAGUINDANAO MASSACRE. one innocent life is lost because of a phone. how sad.

  227. sodz_XP says:

LG Philippines is so inhuman. They don’t care about the dangers that their event will cause. And there it is, just like qwertylover56 said, one innocent life is lost!

FUCK YOU LG PHILIPPINES FOR YOUR INHUMAN BEHAVIOR!

Anyway, LG products are not as good as their competitors. Nasa last rank pa rin sila in terms of quality and how they deal to their customers.

Life is Bad. Hehe..

  237. mary says:

@juyjuy, I agree that people shouldn’t boycott the brand PERO if you’ve been reading everyone’s reactions, you’ll realize that LG did have a fault – it was asking people not to leave the line and telling them na may chance pa silang makakuha, even those at the very end of the line.

Nakapila ako sa Nokia SM North which is on the other end of the 4th floor (nasa kabilang side pa yung LG) and umabot sa pila ng Nokia yung haba nung LG!

I think that was their greatest fault during the sale. I don’t blame LG’s small window (1hr), single cashier and limited stocks, those were the sale’s limitations — but misleading people was really really evil AND there’s no excuse for that.

PS I’m not an LG hater. So Nokia ako pumila dahil napansin ko from yugatech na mas unti ang tao sa Nokia hehe. I’m planning to buy P500 during the 30% off sale.

Saying “wag kayong mag-alala, baka po i-extend namin yung 1hr window, etc” will not hold up as a promise in court kaya safe ang LG, pero kung usapang matino between Filipinos, it was tantamount to a promise of goodwill. A promise which the LG rep couldn’t deliver. Kaya naiintindihan ko yung mga na-badtrip dito.

  246. Benito Guevarra says:

I think no matter how much they prepared for this, wala ring mangyayari. Kahit anong suggestion ibigay natin, gugulo pa rin yan, and you know why, kasi mga Pinoy yan! It started na may maayos na pila (sa SM north), and then nawala at una-unahan na, ayaw magpalamang yung iba. Walang disiplina ang mga Pinoy talaga. It’s not all LG’s and Nokia’s fault. Marami talagang gagong Pinoy. Di na tayo dapat magtaka at magalit. That’s the Pinoy nature.

The best way they probably could’ve handled this is by having a virtual line sa internet. Have a registration system on their respective websites, bibigyan ka ng number and a stub to print out, tapos yun ang ipepresent mo sa sale.

    1. LG Phil did not want to tell people that they have limited stocks for the sale because they want to make a publicity stunt at the expense of people flocking to their stores. They don’t want to cut the line (particularly in SM North EDSA) as this will end the hype that they want to create. They want to boast that many people desire them.
    2. I don’t think LG Phil saw the need to organize the line from the first place since they already know that they want to offer these prices for a limited number of stocks. As an example, why would one organize 4,000 people and know that you are only accommodating about 15 customers to avail the promo price?
    3. LG Phil weren’t honest enough to care for their potential consumers and their promotional gimmick backfired at them.

In all honesty, the Optimus One phone is a good unit even at the regular price but LG Phil destroyed the image of the company. To aggravate the situation, I personally experienced an LG staff arguing with a complaining customer right in front of many other people. They seriously lack training in customer service and relations. Although the LG store sales staff were very amateurish in handling the situation, I will put the blame on their management particularly the marketing manager who is the brain of this frenzie gimmick.

South Korea’s LG seeks to be the Philippines’ top electronics brand

CEBU CITY – LG Electronics Philippines, Inc. is expanding its market reach and pursuing an aggressive marketing campaign to make LG the top consumer electronics brand in the country next year.

While other companies are holding back because of the global economic slowdown, LG Electronics Asia president Woody Nam said they were investing more in strengthening the brand and providing better support for customers in the regional areas.

“This is a difficult time. Sales and profits are down. But it’s an opportunity for us. We believe that if we invest now, while the competition is not investing, we will get the most benefits. We aim to be No. 1 in all products,” Mr. Nam said.

LG ranks third among consumer electronics brands in the Philippines.

Its LCD television captured 16 percent of the market as of last month, eight times more than the 2 percent share last year.

The target is to increase this further to a third of the market next year, Mr. Nam said.

In the mobile phone sector, LG holds 2 percent to 3 percent of the market.

As other brands retreat because of the global recession, LG Electronics Philippines president Lee Seung Chul said his firm would be more aggressive in penetrating the market to capture at least 10 percent next year.

Punta dapat ako kahapon sa megamall for the sale. buti hindi ako nagising hehe, opted for the galaxy 5 instead, a bit pricey than those discounted units pero at least nakilatis ko nang maayos yung phone at hindi ako nahasel. “you get what you pay for” still holds true. mababa nga yung presyo, solidong hasel naman.

  267. G-man says:

well in my opinion it’s really the delaying tactics that made people flaming hot.
I personally was there (specifically Megamall) and you can actually see how long it takes for 1 unit to be sold.
come on LG you can do better than that

  268. G-man says:

    and P.S.

seeing that the line is long, me and my friend went to window shop on different stores.

  269. madapaka says:

I’m quite sure that all will be forgiven if they repeat the promo that will last for one whole day, unfortunately it’s all wishful thinking, others will disagree of course especially those who queued until late afternoon.

The said event purpose was to get market attention, which they did, unfortunately all they got in return was notoriety, someone died for a phone! IMAGINE THAT! No amount of PR can repair this.

I saw a girl (pale and all) being carried on a wheelchair by a security guard (I hope it’s not her who died).

  270. notbuyinglganymore says:

I really thought I would still buy the Optimus One for the original price just in case I didn’t get one on this sale, but after seeing what happened in the sale, I changed my mind. I am pissed with how LG has handled this situation.

Unlike Nokia though, LG didn’t go straight to the point with the people who waited in line. They KNEW they would DEMO the phone to the buyers (As a matter of fact, it was as if they purposely did it to stall people). HENCE, they KNEW that ONLY A HANDFUL of the Optimus One units could be sold. LG deliberately took advantage of the people. Amidst the fact that they KNEW they can only sell to a HANDFUL, they DID NOT cut the lines short like Nokia did. They loved the attention and kept the lines unnecessarily long. Cheers to Nokia for cutting their lines short and not being the attention whore LG was (although their promo was obviously an attempt to steal some of LG’s thunder too). Shame on LG for deliberately fooling those in line into thinking that they even had the slightest chance of availing the promo (by rearranging them and making them sign “contact sheets” as if it was going to change anything).

Kudos to Nokia for honoring their potential customers. Shame on LG for deliberately fooling them.

  271. bleep says:

@gian: obviously, you have not read all the comments. the reason people stayed on in line is because LF staff continuously said “we might extend the sale” and “we have a huge amount of units available for the sale.” they refused to cut the line. so the people lining up were, in fact, not desperate idiots with no commonsense, just people hoping to get a good deal for a smartphone from a company that kept them hanging with vague statements (just to keep the long lines around for publicity).

what pisses me off is how stupid so many people who weren’t there are. they keep saying things like “its just a phone,” “bitter,” etc etc but they’re all missing the point. this whole fiasco was an UNACCEPTABLE marketing stint by an obviously desperate company willing to disrespect their customers’ time and energy. we’re not bitter about not getting the phones, we’re ANGRY about being disrespected and about the way the whole event was handled. All we wanted was for them to cut the line or give out official statements about the way the event would be handled, but they refused to do it.

the problem with the filipinos is not that we are by nature, undisciplined, as some of you have said. the problem is that we let LG get away with things like this bec many of us simply see the small picture, or just let it go. it’s appalling. this is exactly what’s happening in government as well. LG has to be held accountable for what happened and i really hope we will give them what they deserve–ZERO SALES.

  272. goodluckLG says:

can anyone know how to get in touch with Seung Chul Lee of LG Electronics Philippines in order to voice our concerns?

i thought i would wake up today feeling better from yesterday’s hallowing experience, but i’m more sure that this shouldn’t be dismissed easily. they screwed up big time. and wronged thousands of people.

yes, there are hate pages in facebook. but will it reach the management of LG? i think yesterday’s failure is more than what an irresponsible marketing officer could handle.

anyone who has a better idea?
does tv patrol still has that citizen patrol? i hope this nasty aftermath gets some media mileage so LG knows not to mess up with thousands of people again.

  275. goodluckLG says:

@notbuyinglganymore agree with you! i really wonder if anybody who went through that incident can ever take to buy an LG phone/appliance again.

  277. techie80 says:

I wasnt at the event pero inis naman ako dun sa mga nauna sa pila before the mall even opened, tapos yun pala relatives sila taga sm or workers there. Pagkakaalam ko pag may sale ganyan, prohibited mall employees and immediate relatives, not to mention that they can get sacked from their jobs by using their access to let in other people to participate in such event. Also, dapat din may limit sa pagbenta ng units, as in one unit per person. Event organization fail talaga. May fault din yung malls diyan.

  278. John Aldrin says:

The whole LG one-hour-sale is a plain joke, irresponsible, immature and direct insult to consumers!! I don’t know who’s to blame but certainly both LG management and DTI. I arrived around 11am at SM NE and found the line long. At first, I thought it wasn’t too bad until I left the queue for a while to check the start of the line. There I saw how unruly the line is without order and discipline. I asked the guard why is there no clean line, or single pile line when at the back, we were disciplined with single line. The guard informed me that there was commotion that disturbed the line and hence, the disorder. I tried to talked to LG store manager where there was a guy wearing white outside infront of the crown and instead talk to him. He claims proudly that he is the Retail Merchandizing Mgr for LG. I figure out that the crowd has more than 180 pax already and with your early math of 3 counters and 1 min/pa transaction as best case, it can only serve around 180pa. I asked the mgr to issue stubs aready at that early to inform the crowd who can’t be served anymore. I begged that he considers the plight of the consumers patiently waiting for maybe nothing at all since crown is worst already. Do you know what he answered? He told me that LG did not ask the crown to queue in line that long. It was the personal choice of the people. There I argued instantly since I sensed immaturity, irresponsibility and unbecoming of a manager in his response considering he claims to be the retail merchandizing manager of LG. I told him that LG has indirectly caused the people to queue and should take responsibility of the long queue and the unruly crown and disorder line at that early. He again claims that he can’t issue stub because that is not part of the mechanics. I asked him again if there is possibility to extend the one hour sale which he discounted as No. Hence, I told him the more they should disperse the crown now so people can just go home and not waste their time for nothing. See this guy who claims to be an LG mgr answering like that. I even told him about the math and why do they continue to distribute so many flyers in the crown when they know they can’t be served. This mgr left me bec he knows he’s illogical and irresponsible. Unfortunately, that guy went inside the LG store and just kept himself inside without any doing anything about the crowd. I would have expected that should he can’t make any decision that he calls his mgr and seek advise how to handle the whole thing. He did nothing. He maintained to non-chalant inside the LG concept store. You know, I went back to my line and still hopes something good happens. But as expected from the way the manager behaved, it was only around 2:45pm when one LG guy went out talking the people in the single pile line that we won’t be accomodated anymore. Wow! I couldn’t believe this guy who has even the courage to try to look good and concerned with the crowd when it was only 15min before the end of the 3pm sale, that they communicated something that should have been done as early as 11am. I tried to listen to the girl who’s megaphoning all the procedures and around 2:40pm, she said not to be pushing one another, otherwise, stubs won’t be distributed for the next batch. That was 2:40pm. Then around 2min before 3pm, she announced that no stub will be distributed anymore and the sale has ended. Wow! I just couldn’t believe what kind of management LG has on their staff, their managers and their whole business processes.

If there is any LG upper management here, I recommend that you act on the unbecoming of the Retail Merchandizing mgr who was stationed at SM NE at at around 11am to be reviewed for his performance from that sale. I think he should be fired on the spot! Not a manager at all. No sense for corporate social responsibility.

I hate LG, I hate their people, They like to fool people, They glorify themselves seeing people suffer in queue, They have complete disregard of their consumer plight.

They have to seriously rethink about everything and now focus on how they could alleviate the agony and hatred of the people who went their to buy.

  280. Robin Lim says:

I did not go, but I was tempted too if not for prior commitments. For this I am thankful.

LG and Nokia announced time based promotions, instead what they should said was 50-60% discounts to the first 20-60 buyers. Sales start at 1:00 p.m./2:00 p.m.

It looks like LG and Nokia intentionally wanted to draw a long line and to do so mislead people by not saying that the number of units sold was fixed.

  281. Dennison Uy says:

I wonder what LG head office thinks about this. Sana mag release sila ng statement. Better if they apologize for the whole incident.

  284. Arvee says:

My classmate who lined up for the C6 promo (who mistakenly have, he was supposed to go to LG but he got lost since di sya familiar sa SM Annex) told me that Nokia handled their event better.

Before lunch, Nokia told the people there were only 60 units available for sale, pero baka daw madagdagan pa. Some decided to walk away, including him.

Medyo fortunate pa mga pumila sa Nokia, kasi binigyan sila ng estimated number of people na maseserve during the sale.

  285. BoNDeDeSTiNy says:

I WONT BUY NOR TAKE A PEEK AT ANY LG PRODUCTS …

Bakit ako as early as 8AM nasa loob Megamall na ako preparing for our event, I know the event but I didn’t fall in line because I was too busy in the event I’m preparing for.

Ang dami kong nakita na nasa-megamall McDonalds na dumaan via the inside gate of Mcdonalds para makapasok sabi ni la mag-ccr lang, kasing ihing ihi na daw (since katabi lang ng mcdonalds un CR)

Maraming paraan para makapasok ng megamall as early as 9AM, isa na nga doon ang Fitness First.

I could say na from sir abe’s words “its really survival of the fittest”

But what LG did that demo the unit, PURPOSELY delaying the selling is really DUMB for them!

They really amplified the ANDROID hype, unfortunately to what happened its now an advantage for the other brands.

  293. tyui opasdf says:

hindi kasalanan ng company kung gusto niyang magsale at hindi nila naplanuhan yung mga tao na magsiyaayos sa kanilang pag line up., ang pinakaproblema is yung unahan mentality, and ung mga nageexpect ng masyado na makakakuha sila ng mura.

in other words, whoever went there should be thinking, i don’t need this phone, but if i get it, then good. or rather, “…goodluck na lang..”..

you know what buying something not it’s price is? it’s called stealing. magnanakaw ang mga ganid na tao na walang ka-class class at sumisingit at tumatakbo. ano ito, survival of the fittest?

  294. ronsterrr says:

tsk tsk tsk. i feel so bad that i told my two younger brothers about this sale. they don’t have work since they are still studying. i explained to them that they might not be able to get the phones but they said they were willing to wait and take their chances. they waited for 6 to 7 hours for nothing.

ok lang sana kung ang nauna sa kanila sa line eh yung pumila ng maayos, but like another person said here, some people were already there even before the Mall opened at 10am (from fitness first or some other place).

LG should have been more fortright with their sale. they shouldn’t have made too much publicity about this sale if they were giving only 25 units to begin with.

what’s worse is they allowed the people to line up for their sale without even informing these poor people that they are just waiting in line for nothing (according to my brother, at least Nokia informed the people beforehand that they will only be giving out a certain number of units. so people did not end up waiting for nothing with Nokia at least).

i felt my brothers were just used by unconscionable LG for their publicity stunt.

what a truly bad way to do business. so careless. so heartless.

i’m beginning to think LG cares more about their profit than they do for their customers. that’s not making life good, that’s making life hell.

    just awful. disgusting.

it certainly left a bad taste in my mouth that i don’t ever want to go near an LG product – not even for 50 meters (ok, i’m exaggerating with the 50 meters, but you get the idea. i’m so sick of LG right now that i don’t even want to see an LG product).

i feel i’m partly to blame for what my brothers went through on that day.

i know there’s a rumor going around that they will sell their products for like 30% off on this date and that, but trust me on this one, i’m not buying. getting a bargain phone is not everything. how the manufacturer of the product treats you as a customer is a lot lot more.

so bye for now LG, i’m not buying any of your products for sometime.

  295. Bruno says:

    @Hoy Gising and tyui opasdf

OH REALLY BITCH? BOBO KA BA OH TANGA LANG? OR BAKA TARANTADONG SHIT FACE MOTHERFUCKER SHIT KA? PARE KUNG MAY POSITIVE FEEDBACK KA SA LG, WAG MO NALANG SABIHIN. KASI IBIG SABIHIN NUN BOBO KA, OR IKAW UNG SALES MANAGER NG LG.

KUNG MAY TAGA ABS-CBN DYAN OR GMA7, ILABAS NYO PO ITO SA TV, PARA MALAMAN NG BUONG PILIPINAS KUNG GAANO KA WALANG KWENTA ANG LG ELECTRONICS.

If they did sana ndi na nagantay yung mga pumila after 30 pax sa LG and 60 pax sa NOKIA sa line. gets nyo?

This whole fiasco will be bad for LG. An android phone with a 13k price tag is already a niche product here in the Phil and now the demographic they’re targeting (students, yuppies) are pissed at them.

The only saving grace they have is that for this holiday season, the Optimus One will still be the only android 2.2 device with a standard HVGA screen available at this price segment.

  309. Jerico Vilog says:

8am dumating kami and fortunately na-calculate namin best way to reach LG ahead of those na nasa 4th floor car park.

though may 3 LG Optimus phone kami, very dissapointed pa rin ako sa kapalpakan ng LG people. I would never ever again buy any LG products and magiging bukang-bibig ko ito sa mga clients and friends ko na nanghihingi ng advice sa mga electronic devices especially phone.

hindi ako nagmamalaki na may nakuha kami… isa rin ako sa nagalit at talagang mag boycot ng product nila. i currently have samsung galaxy 5 at papalitan ko sana ng optimus pero i gave it na lang sa friend ko… wait na lang ako for a better samsung phone

  316. leemar says:

    loko talaga ang LG

  317. leemar says:

buti pa ang samsung last year nun nagkaroon sila ng 1 month great sale, 10-15% nga lang pero walang naging problem sa stocks at selling, my mga pa raffle at pa concert pa sila that time.

hope lg learn the lesson here.

guys just wait for samsung, for sure mag sale yan sila.

  318. Jun says:

yes.. magpakasaya na sila sa 50% nila.. eh dun lang naman ang time na me bibili sa kanila.. but for regular day o pag wala silang promo.. lalangawin sila for sure.. bullshit sila.. never never buy any LG products..

  319. winwin says:

LG said they didn’t expect the number of people that came to the promo which i think is just a joke!with so much ads newspaper, facebook, and other tech forum sites it’s imposible for them not to forecast it!IT’S A COMPANY! who the hell wouldn’t know about it?! the fact that im within the 50th bracket of headcount still i didn’t get the phone!u know why?we’re the one’s who got in to the mall even if it’s not yet 10am.. i got there 7am with at least 10-15 people sa door ng mall..we got in 9:45 with the help of a friend and we ran to megamall 4th floor to make sure that we’re at least within the 10 bracket.. but NO! fitness first peepz were already,. here’s also a family that has a sched to STI for medical purpose! wat’s more surprising is LG assured people of getting a stub that’s what made LG customers to exert more effort and waste time waiting for the sale time which is 2pm.. even if LG doesn’t have a DIGITAL CLOCK to let people know what time it is for them though they said they will follow mall time they don’t even have a wall clock in their store.. the time started and u know wat time they took the first 5 batch on our lane? it’s already 2:20 knowing that the people lined up in front of the store is just about 20 or 25.. then the 2nd batch with another 5 again was 2:35 imagine the 10 mins is just to get 5 more people!then i said if it’s 10mins more to get another 5 then im in.. but no!! the bouncer who escorts customers never came back!!even though the line in front of the store is just around 7-10 people! and those people has the stub.. until they announced that it’s already 3pm..the people started shouting the guy who’s 1st in the line now got frustrated and shouted to people that “we don’t deserve this!we’re fooled” ..i understand him and i know it’s much harder for him since he’s the 1st in line and i think his group of friends are one of the 2nd batch and he’s the only 1 left. his friends was looking for him and i think asking the LG agents to skip the demo step since i know for a fact with their gadgets iphone and macbook these people know what they’re buying!imagine!! the agents of LG cannot even grant a customer’s request because they said it’s part of the step!see?!do they really wanna sell it out cheaP? still i waited to see if they will change their mind.. SM admins and i think the head of management in Megamall went to their store ask Mr Salamia because people were mad and you know what?i heard the Head of security asking the other guard not to stop people. “wag nyo silang pigilan hayaan nyo sila maglabas ng sama ng loob” ..then i went to the other side where people is asking for the store manager’s name. but they’re refusing and staff were all quiet sitted on their stations and waiting for Mr. Salamia who introduced himself as Sales Dealer of LG who appeared to be as the highest organizer in the event(people shouting and named him as kuntil) because all the staff were waiting for him and he keeps calling i think the head office.. we were ask by SM customer relation officers to go to admin to file formal complaint but people were mad because they just need the name of the store manager to report it to DTI. SM officers were nice kept apologizing and saying that they didn’t know this big event of LG and it even shows that when crowd are getting bigger around 12 or 1pm SM officers are everywhere with mall guards. i didn’t even know that they line stemmed down to basement as other complainant said but still they can’t do anything to control the crowd.. i know filing complaint won’t do any help it’s just gonna add more and waste paper to SM admin office because they can’t remove even the store it’s where they get profit to their tenants,. tama din nmn ang SM officer it’s not their sale so they don’t know what to tell us.. hoping that this won’t happen again. LG may have another event like this but i will never ever waste time again. my wife even asked me if i wanna buy the phone at regular price because im really disappointed and so tired the night we got home. i said “what?!no way! i went there to get 50% and wasted time for a day.. with these grudges that i have for LG now i won’t deal with them anymore.. i’d rather buy nokia c6 at regular price since alam nila how to set expectations right before the event started” .. tama!! nokia did a great job!!for me, people who came late like 11am were people got mad to nokia but see most complaints are for LG because nokia distributed their stubs at exactly 1pm and stop letting people to line up for the c6 they even posted on the glass wall “no available stock for c6” i even saw their deliveries coming in to the store. and after the promo of nokia people still line up for the c3 no complaints at all because they get what was set on their mind..pero sa LG di ko nga alam san nila tinago or pinwesto un UNLIMITED STOCKS DAW NILA! akala ko 50units man lang as people said here days before the event.. at maiintindihan ko limited lang din sila qng di sila nag advertised sa newspaper, sa MRT, sa facebook., sana sa mall na lang nilagay sa store pinost nila 50% on the day of sale and those are really the lucky guys na makakabili. lucky tlga kasi they didn’t prepare for it they just saw it and on the spot jackpot!db? hayz!! im just hoping samsung, sony ericson and also nokia will have another sale event for sure bibili ako sa kanila!

  324. We would like to thank everyone who participated and made the event a huge success. We know that many lined up for the sale but we can’t really accomodate everyone. We tried our best to give everyone there a chance to experience the Android system but it seems that there are lots of logistic issues that left us tangled and trapped in the middle.

We’ve learned a lot from this sale and we’ll make sure to keep things better from now on. Expect more sales from LG.

To the persons who managed to have the LG OPTIMUS ONE at discounted prices, congratulations to you. To those who are unfortunate, we’re sorry for all the hassle and trouble we caused you. Thank you everyone for your interest in LG OPTIMUS ONE.

We’ll keep you posted on our upcoming promos. Life’s good!

@mylifesgoodph: success? i don’t think so… unless you really meant for optimus one not to push forward in the philippines so that your slow moving items will finally move off the shelf. do you think anybody will want to be tagged as cheaters and fools because that’s what everybody will be thinking of anytime they see someone with that particular model. pity for those who bought the units at the regular price kasi pati sila madadamay sa stigma na ginawa ng event na to. btw, has any of you people bothered to check on the news that somebody died on the event? at least verify if there’s some truth to it and take immediate actions. remember ultra stampede? you could very well be facing the same thing.

  339. Arvee says:

@People It may seem a little impossible. ABS-CBN is sponsored by LG (as you can see with their news and public affairs programs’ TV screens and program credits). LG and GMA are long time partners, in fact, GMA aired the Digital LG Quiz for 5 years. Their huge touchscreen TV is also from LG and one show on their sister network QTV is sponsored by LG.

TV5 MAY (I’m not really sure) not look on this issue since they’ve just started gaining sponsors and ads and don’t want to scare LG from investing on them.

Anyway, next time, let’s just be prepared with our expectations with this kind of event. Marami atang masyadong galit to the point na babasagin yung LCDTV na ibibigay ng libre ng LG if ever. :)

@mylifesgoodph “We tried our best to give everyone there a chance to experience the Android system but it seems that there are lots of logistic issues that left us tangled and trapped in the middle.”

the best decision that you could have made during that time was to inform the people who lined up that they can no longer be accommodated and that they are just wasting their time. gaano ba kahirap sabihin yun?

I was able to get 3 units from SM North with my wife and friend. Those who are in the first 15 are all employees of shops inside SM Annex which can access the mall before 10 am.

LG really made this promo not to sell the Optimus P500 but to sell their old models at 50% off after 3 pm.

The phone is really good even if you get it at it’s original price. A brand new 5800 still costs around 11k-12k, compared to my 5800, the P500 is way much better. I don’t mind the poor quality of the camera since we always have a digicam in our bag.

The 256k colors of the screen of the P500 is surprisingly way better than the 5800 16M colors since it has better contrast.

I think I will never go back to a Symbian phone now that I tried an Android unit.

All those who are mad are the ones who didn’t get a unit. Of course.

Remember that this is a promo, they don’t require you to be at the line and buy their product.

A promo is not for all OF COURSE!, as said, and ITS FIRST COME FIRST SERVE. Andami pang gusto sumingit mga 1pm na dumating. Shet!

LG is not requiring you to be in the line first of all. hahay nalang mga tao talaga.. Gusto lahat makuha.

  353. yhabe30 says:

    @grayfox

I was thinking the same. I was in Megamall around 9am. I used the 4th floor parking entrance. Amazingly, I was ahead of the pack that rushed to the store. But to my surprise, there were already lots of people waiting just outside the booth. They were relaxed as if they didn’t even run. But what’s the time at that moment? Around 10:03am. C’mon. Who are they? LG Employee’s friends? SM shops salespersons? Those who could enter the mall before 10am?

I didn’t get it via the promo. I bought it on regular price just after the event. It was still worth it. The unit would still have sentimental value for me.

I even saw the event wherein one female of LG collapsed inside their store due to the crowd that rushed in when the store opened.

  356. Christian says:

As God-loving nation, I suggest that everyone should stop condemning each other. Remember, everybody is a loser here, while someone is rejoicing — THE DEVIL.

Let me seed something for you:

“But when we refuse to forgive those who hurt, offended, or betrayed us, we choose to be their ‘judge and jury.’ At that point, we are sitting in judgment — a position reserved for God himself.

When we arrogantly attempt to replace Him, He has no other option than to release us to the demonic tormentors for discipline until we learnt to repent and to forgive even as we have been forgiven.”

“Don’t make God’s spirit sad (Grieve not the Holy Spirit). The spirit makes you sure that someday you will be free from your sins. Stop being bitter and angry and mad at others. Don’t yell at one another or even condemn each other or ever rude. Do as God does. After all, you are His dear Children. Let love be your guide. Christ loved us and offered His life for us as a sacrifice that pleases God (Ephesianss 4:30 – 5:20)”

laki ng problema ng mga tao dito..

It was clearly stated that it was a promo, that it would only last an hour… even if they had unlimited stocks if that hour lapsed, then the promo would be over.. That was clearly stated. So whether they sold 20, 40 or 2000 units is irrelevant. If the time limit has been reached, they stop the promo.. simple as that..

Now people lined up.. great.. but come on.. are you not smart enough to think that maybe if you’re in a line where you’re already a floor away from the store.. did it not ever cross your mind that you wouldn’t make it in within the time limit? Why waste your time, when it was (again) clearly stated that 1 hour lang ito.. Umaasa ka na more than an hour? really? You mean you didn’t understand the promo mechanics? How is that LG’s fault? seeing a really long line and knowing there’s a time limit.. pumila ka pa rin? Really? and now you’re blaming some company for your decision to line up knowing you won’t make it? Galing.. Galing talaga.. you’re smart enough to whine on the internet, but not smart enough to know when not to line up for something anymore..

fyi lang po. read the flyers. it was just implied that the unit must be purchased within the hour. the mechanics only said that in order to avail of the promo you must go to the store between 2-3pm. if we’re going to be pilosopo about it just like what they did when they didn’t facilitate the transactions faster (which should be illegal based on dti’s policies, btw) then all the people lining up betwen 2-3pm should have been given the chance to buy at promo price (which must be the reason why the staff said that the units are unlimited – it is also illegal to put in the printout the word ‘until supplies last’). there are numerous things that they did not follow. i’ve already called dti. here’s the email address for complaints [email protected] (i dunno why they are just using a yahoo email add). if you knew any other things for which lg did not follow the rules please send in one. attach a copy of the flyer (can be found in their website) as proof. i don’t know how things will push through but i would just like to take action rather than just complain about it.

  375. Ralp says:

It is now time to stop ranting and do something about it. The Consumer Act of the Philippines precisely protects consumers from this form of FRAUD. People who lined up within that one hour window, even if it stretched all the way to EDSA, should have bought the phone at the advertised price. There was nothing in the mechanics which limited the number of units.

File a written complaint with DTI or group together and file a class suit against LG and Nokia. If you took the time the queue for a hopeless goal, filing these formal complaints should be peanuts.

  378. lgisgoingdown says:

let’s do something about this. i will be filing a complaint sa dti as well as sa global lg. i need proof ng mga mali na nagawa nila as well as names na pwede ko isama sa signatory to show them na marami tayo. i did some research and here’s …what i have so far.
    1. the dti-ncr permit number is invalid according to dti-ncr website.
    2. The DTI representative would be present and will verify guarantee of delivery of: the mechanics, entry forms, prizes, advertising materials and control measures approved prior to issuance of permit <- there was no dti representative to check according to one of their staff
    3. the mechanics were not followed (the flyers did not say that the purchase must be made between 2-3pm. it only stated that you have to be there between 2-3pm to avail of the promo).
    4. Persons reporting regularly to the promoter, sponsor or advertiser under a contract or service and who, by the nature of the service they render may have a direct and personal knowledge of the promotion <- one of SMs managers was able to avail of the promo. SM supplies their security thus creating unfair advantage which she did took advantage of.
    5. No person shall directly or indirectly tamper with the entries and/or paraphernalia in a sales promotion campaign nor influence the results, or perform any act to the disadvantage of the legitimate participants and/or winners. <- they deliberately prolonged the transaction even if the customer stated that they did not want a demo.
i don't know kung valid but we'll see. help me do something about this. if you want to join the complaint please pm me your names. thanks!

FYI lang po… that’s exactly what we are requesting.

They would however insist na huwag umalis sa pila, at pwede pa mabigyan. And the number of units available/sold was never disclosed to the customers. This is basically what’s the source of dismay of the people who went there.

  380. Mpst says:

  381. Michael says:

I was one of the lucky few na nakakuha sa Megamall.. Solid build and no squeaky feel.. 3.5″ screen is very responsive. Froyo is nice. External speakers are very loud.. 3mp lang yun camera pero at least may autofocus. Overall maganda talaga yung phone.. Bang for the buck Android phone itong Optimus One. Mas solid feel sya and not to mention bigger 3.5″ screen. So for me best buy pa din ito kahit 12-13k ang regular price nya.

  382. will_blix says:

Maybe some of you are TPC or TCP members also, sorry for posting but let me reflect here also my observations.

Why not give numbers at exactly 1PM.

    2. Limited offer. All assumed this. Kaya nga nagdatingan ng maaga eh. But the fault is, sana dineclare na lang na 100 pcs lang pala ang stocks. Sana nde na nag-expect ang mga tao.

Sana binigyang priority ung may number, and let those w/o be segregated inside.HInde naman talaga lalabas yang mga yan. Nasa loob na eh.

    4. This nokia branch (megamall) haven’t called dept store security assistance even before 1PM to control the growing number of expectators.

    5. Gumawa ng listahan, pero walang priority, andaming papel, which is which, anong papel ang nauna sa pila. Nagpaasa lang.

    6. I am one who came early, nasa pintuan pa nga ako just hoping na lang to have another batch.Pinalista pero again, it is just to appeace us. Walang assurance.Kaya nga umuwi na lang ako with my family to enjoy the rest of the day. Kaya lang diba sayang? it is a privilege pero wala eh.

    7. But then again, I just cherished na lang yung mga maganda pa ring nangyari. Nakipagsiksikan, but still nakamgiti pa rin. Malay mo ba?

    8. Sa mga nakakuha, Swerte nyo hehehe. Pa-touch naman para maka-experience.

  383. renz says:

It was horrific!!! Waiting for almost 6 hours in the line.

@will_blix: sorry this is just for lg. i didn’t know what happened in nokia kasi so i’m not in a position to do the same. sa lg kasi i was there so it’s different. saka kasi i don’t think gumamit ng print ad yung nokia so baka hindi nila need ng dti permit and thus hindi sila covered ng dti. i’m not sure but feel free to use my arguments if you think the same case yung sa nokia.

  390. Concerned says:

hi everyone. really is a big mess this one. but being in the philippines, LG and Nokia will get away with this i’m sure. It’s really obvious what their ploy is. they tell you to line up and not tell you how many units are available for sale, right? then they tell you not to leave, you know why? so they can offer you other discounted models after the promo period has ended (more sales for them!) and yung iba nga buy because sayang naman kasi oras nila. This has been their ploy all along (na-move pa nila effectively ang mga old stocks nila). sad this is this will all be forgotten in a week =( because ….. you all know why ……

  391. Arvee says:

Yup I agree, maganda talaga response nung touchscreen ng optimus one. I tried it myself nung nandun yung mascot ni lee min ho haha. I asked the lady taking pictures if can I at least try to browse the phone.

The event tainted a bad image this good device and the whole company. Though I hated what happened last saturday, for around 10k (when the 30% sale happens), I’d still buy the phone knowing that it’s still worth it.

@Tony, I agree with @Mediator. I saw stalls last saturday selling the Galaxy 5 for 11.5k. And to think na second hand pa yan, you should sell it for a lower price :)

  392. koykiks says:

    ang tanong jan:

ilang ang nabenta na original priced units ng LG that day? >:)

  393. mark says:

    Lahat Ginoyo

^^precisely my point. what would you guys think pag nakakita kayo ng may hawak ng optimus one. honestly, kahit n i try to be fair about it kahit papano i can’t help but think na cheater. hahah… kahit ako kung nakakuha man ako nakakahiya pa rin maglabas nito kung saan saan kasi syempre ayoko matawag n mandurugas or nagoyo ng lg db? hahaha… sayang talaga kasi mukhang maganda pa naman yung phone but what’s the use kung nakakahiya naman gamitin. kaya ako i’ll try my best to at least make lg uncomfortable as possible in my own little ways. just my two cents.

LG issues Official Statement & Special Offer

LG Electronics Philippines wishes to thank the overwhelming number of customers who responded to our special ONE HOUR SALE for the LG OPTIMUS One Android 2.2 smart phone at LG Concept Stores at SM North EDSA Annex, SM MegaMall, SM Cebu City, and Gaisano Davao last Saturday.

Given that the announced sale was limited only to one hour (by DTI permit # 5911 series of 2010) and that only a limited number of customers were served, we regret the inconvenience this may have caused those who traveled long distances and lined up for hours (despite clarificatory announcements made by LG personnel) for the opportunity to purchase an Android 2.2-powered LG OPTIMUS One at half rate.

We will be contacting all customers who came to the LG OPTIMUS One Sale and left their contact details with the LG Team last Saturday with a special offer starting today, November 15, 2010.

Thank you for your continued support.

its a fail. both nokia and lg. Dont buy lg products until prices are dropped.

  401. LG is Great! Congrats LG! says:

  402. ihateLG says:

@mylifesgoodph, it rubs salt to our wounds to say that the event was a success.

thousands of people lined up, tired and hungry, someone even died and few more injured, only because you keep telling them that a lot of phone would be given. when it turned out your process that day maliciously made it more difficult to sell more?

that is cruel and disgusting! plainly inhumane.

and yet you’re still unapologetic? and basking in your “SUCCESS”? GAGUHAN NA ITO!

you know, if this happened in another country, people would have thrown stones into your stores that same day. mababait lang tayo kaya hanggang hate page and boycott lang kaya natin.

come to think of it, they didn’t ask the people to leave because they thought that people might still be interested in their 50% promo of non-optimus LG phones.or buy optimum at full price.

mention LG and i’m going to puke right away.

  403. karlo says:

the day before the bullshit sale, we asked the people from the LG SM North branch if they can accommodate the people. they said, just go there on the specified time… ma-accommodate daw. anung klaseng sale yung nangyari? kahit grade one matatalo sila. hindi kailangan ng magdamag na brainstorming para maisip yung dapat gawin. dapat yung top management may liability rin coz they approved of this sale. i was really disappointed sa sale. first time ko pumila sa ganung sale.. ndi na cguro mauulit… lessons learned. ridiculously, lg spent thousands for ads just to sell 50 units (or less) per store? that’s pathetic… they should fire their marketing people. asap!

  404. mokong says:

weh… nagfill-up ako… wala pa namang details un LG… BOOOOO!

  405. @jazzper
sa sm pala sya kaya pala nung sale ko palang sya nakita dun sa gmall hehe..mapuntahan nga ang sm para makita ko sya ulit..hehe sa gmall pa rin ba ang sale o kasali na ang sm? 30% is still okay malaki laki na ring tipid yon. pero titingnan ko muna kung same pa rin mechanics kasi i dont want to repeat that experience na sumakit paa ko kakatayo. im expecting kasi that after the 50% eh ibababa man lang nila yung discount which is still a good deal but to no avail. i want to experience the android kasi. pero nawala bigla sakit ng mga paa ko ng makita ko ung girl na yon..hehe

  406. ihateLG says:

karlo, the way i see it, yes, they spent thousands of ads. but not to sell 100 of units of discounted LG. the ads were to draw people in that day, and hoping they will buy the discounted non-optimus units, or buy optimus at full price.

i used to say since this happened that marketing people are so moronic and LG people that day are incompetent. but come to think of it, they could have impose a cut-off early but they didn’t, because they were instructed not to.

because they want those thousand people to stay and purchase. why didn’t they advertise the 50% discount on non-optimus phones? optimus is just a teaser, the real promotion is on non-optimus phones. Why would you turn people away who might buy the optimus at full price? bat mo nga naman papaalisin ang isang libong tao na may dalang cash, enough at then?

in the end, LG intended to make a quick buck at our expense.

  407. nger nger says:

may dalang pera to try out android at 6.5k. I think onti lang naibenta nilang non-optimus one phones eh. i don’t think the pampalubag-loob bibili nalang ako ng ibang LG phones worked out. ikaw ba naman na pumila buong araw to get what you don’t want sa same LG store, no way, titingin nalang ako sa iba.

hindi rin kayang maibigay ng ibang sellers ang pinang-pain ng LG that day. HTC Smart at CM Eclipse @ 6495? no way, jose! Dapat HTC Wildfire at CM Nova nalang, kahit hanggang 8490 pa. :D

I think most of the people who had the 7k cash decided to keep it and wait for x-mas nalang, when they have higher purchasing powers na.

  408. Vannie says:

the failure is that they only had the promo for LG Optimus One, those sellers at your booths are dumb-asses. Should have coordinated with the mall security personnel. Biggest mistake is that they let the people expect that they could still accommodate most of them. A DTI representative should have been introduced or should be on site. Lousy upper management, should have just raffled it away so people won’t be bothered. You just infuriated those thousands that will surely tell 6 of their friends of what you have done. Do not call it a success because those suppose to be customers are more than those who say it was.

  415. SuperPinoy says:

We, Filipinos, are fighters, hopefuls and risk takers. That is why we fell in line to such event.

What we, who fell in line, were or are pointing @ is the way you/LG managed your consumers/customers in such event.

You/LG should be on top of this. The consumers/customers sensed the Ad before the consumers/customers fell in line. Your name as LG was on the Ad. Even if it is the lack of just somebody or part of the crew of such event, still you/LG(the Big Name on the Ad) should be blamed or questioned. That is the reality/true rule of the world or boundary you are working or moving in.

It is just like a family or organization. If a member made mistake/s or sin/s, then the PARENT or the PRESIDENT must be questioned by the affected factors(or persons — well in our case, CUSTOMERS/CONSUMERS).

In brief rationale, we are looking at you/LG, and you are looking at your staffs or members who worked under or for you.

    CUSTOMERS ARE CUSTOMERS.

The event happened was an obvious way of telling that you/LG are more persuader than them(or the other side). Please, LG, do not make us ignorant or stupid. We, who fell in line, are not that naive. We, who fell in line, were really affected. Without customers/consumers, you can not make sales. Even if you say that we should not be there if we know that it will gonna happen(no chance), still we would come for/because again we are fighters(like Manny Pacquiao—who just recently won the Manny Pacquiao & Margarito boxing fight), risk takers(like Charice Pempengco) and hopefuls.

Fighter, risk taker and/or hopeful type of people are the people who live and who knows FREEDOM.

We, who fell in line, were sure buyers. The way you advertise was very obviously deceiving.

In short, your CUSTOMER’S CONVENIENCY skill was very disappointing and unethical in the world of SALES.

I personally fell in line. I was just 2 customers away from the cut off(last buyer of such promo–1 hour only). I even prevented my urine to come out just to get the chance. I started to fall in line at 8am until 3pm(when the 1 hour sale event ended), Philippines time. The host was still announcing that there are more items however he never said the possibilities of the pace of the transaction. The host did not even to manage to announce the difficulty of getting the chance so that we will not be wasting our time waiting. There were thousands of people waiting to get their chance out of 20 items only sold however still the host did not even announce to these thousands of people waiting about the possibilities of not getting the chance. LG, we have believed in you but because of what happened, thousands of people’s LIFE is no GOOD in that time due to broken hopes you were rendering. The host was only announcing that they are the only one who has that kind of event(1 hour sale 50 % off for unlimited–no exact number of such item/s). That is deceiving.

If you want more people but less items, why not do it in Entertainment instead?

Now LG, please confirm/answer this(simple yes or no question):

Were you up to the customer or to the sale?

If customer, then something good(or I shouldn’t be doing this) must have happened.

Else, if sale, then you are not a good example.

In other words, the question is, Sale before Customer or Customer before Sale?

Please answer all the questions LG. I personally beg you. We, who fell in line, were really badly affected.

Funny move LG. Maybe they were just trying out the market… “Hmmm. My phones aren’t selling as much. Let’s see how much market we really have. Let’s do a sale. If a lot of people come, then we have a market.” Thing is, looks like they just lost that market. :p Negative publicity, is still publicity, but not at a business perspective. They were able to attain their goal. A lot of people, who were unaware of Android, probably did their research and are now aware of what Android is. Thing is, they might not go to LG to get their Android anymore, after what they’ve experienced. :)

“mention LG and i’m going to puke right away.”

same here. i was recently recommending a phone to a friend, the LG model came up, i immediately said huwag yan, panget yan. hehehe. nakakasuka talaga LG.

am i sourgraping? i think not. i’m just reacting as a normal human being. if a company does not value me as a person and customer, why should i even consider what they have to offer?

Update: DTI replied to my complaint regarding Last Saturday’s Fiasco. They said they will review it but they need evidences like proof of purchase. Tsk. I was not able to purchase nga kasi of that fail event handling. I even clearly stated that the product itself is not what’s faulty, but the event handling…i sent them video links, blog entries, and pictures of what happened. They may not be merited as evidences…..

    Do you believe in God?

If you do not, please have mercy on your soul. You may refer to the link below:

If you do, then try to have the heart to understand and have the heart to be sympathetic/empathic enough on why we felt or feel this way.

once is enough. twice? i don’t think so.

I’d rather go to another brand which do not deceive and works truthfully.

  435. AkoMizmo says:

    that is expected!

once is ok. but twice? no way. sorry.

I’d rather buy other brand which has a nice system and knows truth.

    well, i’m just a seventeen-year old, but here’s my say-so.

yeah, it was pretty messed up. though i got the chance to purchase a c6, the crowd as well as the event (as expected), was pretty much in the mood of desperation of buying something so hot, cool, and fabulous at the peak of it’s “pricedowns”.

some were even desperate enough to take and beg for numbers so as to buy the cellphones.

    no offense meant here :)

    cheery.oo ;)

They should have told the people that they couldn’t accommodate EVERYONE as early as 11am.

They made us put our information for another offer promo at their office at Pasig.

DO YOU REALLY THINK WE’D GO AFTER THE CHAOS SALE?

    Don’t waste your time. AGAIN.

I sure hope I lined up at Nokia, it looked WAY ORGANIZED.

Not offending or fighting. Just giving my opinion.

@ Superpinoy, walang kinalaman si God sa katangahan mo pumila, again commonsense lang yan, and yes my soul is happy kasi di ako tali sa hunger ko magkaroon ng material wealth or this phone na obviously meron kang matinding pagnanasa. kung meron ok, kung wala, ok lang din but stop bitching about it. wag ka na palate next time para earlybird ka rin. tweet tweet
