OPPO Reno11 F 5G Review: F for Fun and Functionality?

The OPPO Reno11 5G series launched earlier in February, and now a new variant is out, and it’s called the Reno11 F 5G. It will be the most affordable option in the lineup, boasting the same chipset as the vanilla Reno11 5G though expect it to have toned-down specs and features across the board.

Today, we’re taking it for a full review and see what the F variant of the Reno11 has to offer.

Design and Build

I would say F probably means “fun” because the Reno11 F 5G comes in more fun colorways. The unit we have here is the Ocean Blue variant that sports a glossy, glitter finish on the back panel made of plastic material. This design evokes ripples on water, subtly shifting hues as you tilt it.

Protruding on the upper-left corner is the camera island housing a triple camera system. Unlike the standard Reno11 5G or the Pro variant’s oval camera island design, the Reno11 F features a rectangular layout. The only similarity I could see was the design of its camera rings with gradient outlines that matched the color of the phone — just like its higher-end siblings.

It’s flat on all sides with rounded corners, including the front display. The phone is incredibly slim measuring only 7.54 mm in depth and its super light at 177 grams.

For input and output ports, we have a microphone, USB-C port, and a single speaker grill at the bottom. The power button and volume rocker are on the right side. A hybrid SIM card tray is found on the left and another noise-canceling microphone up top.

While it doesn’t have a 3.5mm audio jack, the Reno11 F 5G makes up for it with its IP65 dust resistance and can withstand low-pressure water jets.

Display and Multimedia

Flipping at the front, the Reno11 F features a 6.7-inch full HD+ OLED display with slim bezels, reaching 93.4% screen-to-body ratio. There’s a punch-hole notch at the top housing its 32-megapixel selfie camera.

It is HDR10+ certified for broader contrast and color range, which makes watching content on this phone more immersive and enjoyable, especially if you watch Netflix which supports HDR10+ content.

However, it only comes with a mono loudspeaker at the bottom, considering its expected price range. Speaking of audio, it is relatively decent, and the volume can be maximized up to 300% — which might hurt your ears a bit but it’s quite useful if you happen to be in very loud environments.

The display panel reaches up to 1,100 nits peak brightness, which is good enough for outdoor use and a 120Hz refresh rate for smoother navigation and gameplay. Sandwiched on top is a Panda scratch-resistant glass for an added layer of protection and a screen protector film comes pre-installed on the device.

Camera

OPPO touts the Reno11 F 5G as another one of its ‘portrait expert’ phones, just like the regular and Pro variants of the Reno11, and apparently, they did not lie.

Its triple camera setup consists of a 64-megapixel primary camera complemented by an 8-megapixel ultrawide, and you guessed it, a 2-megapixel macro.

Under ample lighting, the Reno11 F captures slightly more saturated and brighter photos than usual. Clarity and dynamic range are good; even with the 8-megapixel ultrawide lens, the images look sharp. As mentioned earlier, the Reno11 F tends to make photos appear brighter, making colors pop out more, which helps especially in low-lighting conditions.

With portrait mode, we get an aperture slider to add a bokeh effect to the images. Seeing my live feed on the screen initially made me question its image quality due to the harsh and imperfect edges around my face, but the Reno11 F somehow corrects them in post-processing.

The same applies to selfies, thanks to the 32MP front-facing camera. Selfies look flat in some cases, but with enough lighting, they can be as good and should be ready to post to social media without any further editing.

While video quality isn’t its strong suit, the Reno11 F 5G can still capture decent footage in well-lit environments. However, low-light performance tends to suffer from noticeable noise and a lack of sharpness.

On the bright side, it can shoot up to 4K at 30fps for both the rear and selfie cameras. No optical image stabilization here, but EIS is enabled by default for 1080p videos. There’s even an ‘Ultra-steady’ mode that would be helpful to eliminate shakiness entirely.

In terms of camera performance, the Reno11 F 5G is more than capable as it should be.

OS, UI, and Apps

The Reno11 F 5G runs Android 14 out of the box skinned with ColorOS 14. And yes, it has a ton of bloatware. There are third-party apps and games that come pre-installed on the device and the launcher even recommends the “Hot Apps” and “Hot Games” straight onto your home screen.

Fortunately, the OS lets you uninstall or disable these unnecessary bloatware if you ever want to declutter. I do appreciate this one app called “O Relax” which I presume a first-party app developed by Oppo that lets you listen to ambient sounds to relax or get sleep.

One noteworthy feature is “Clear Voice,” which automatically filters background noise (up to 40dB) during calls. This can be helpful for clearer communication in your online meetings since beyond phone calls, Clear Voice supports video conference apps like Google Meet and Zoom.

For those who enjoy creating personalized avatars, the “Omoji” feature allows users to design their own emoji characters, similar to Apple’s Memoji. Another useful feature I found is the File Dock that lets you conveniently copy-paste files through just a swipe from the smart side bar.

ColorOS 14 takes some design cues from iOS with its “aquamorphic” design language, particularly in the notification panel and some native apps and app folders. While this is not necessarily a negative aspect, I find it inconsistent with some of the Google apps like the Phone and Messages app that use Material Design language.

This leads to a less cohesive visual experience in my opinion. But at least OPPO doesn’t add their own messaging and phone apps anymore, so thumbs-up for not installing dupes unlike other OEMs do.

Performance and Benchmarks

Powering the OPPO Reno11 F 5G is the Dimensity 7050 —- a powerful 6-nanometer class chipset from MediaTek — and no wonder why its image post-processing has been great for portrait shots.

Gaming is a breeze with little to no lags on Diablo Immortal with high-graphics settings, however, the frame rate is only capped to 30 frames per second for some reason. Of course, for low-demanding titles like Mobile Legends and Asphalt 9, it will do just fine and should be able to get stable frame rates at high to ultra graphics settings.

There’s also a ‘Hyperboost Game Engine’ meant for optimizing game performance. With this, I can either set the device to Low power, Balanced, or Pro Gamer mode for maximum performance. Although, expect its temperatures to rise slightly after several minutes of playing in Pro Gamer mode.

Oppo Reno11 F Review (3)

It is configured with 8GB RAM and 8GB extended memory. Our unit comes with a 256GB storage, and fortunately, it’s expandable via microSD through the hybrid SIM slot.

For those interested, here are the benchmark scores that we got:

AnTuTu V10: 594,627
AnTuTu Storage:
Read Speed: 2,081.3MB/s
Write Speed: 1,890.3MB/s
3DMark Wild Life: 2,232
GeekBench 6 CPU: 893 (Single Core), 2,291 (Multi-Core)
GeekBench 6 GPU: 2,385 (Vulkan), 2,377 (OpenCL)
PCMark Work 3.0 performance: 8,900

Connectivity and Battery Life

For connectivity, the Reno11 F 5G, as the name implies, has 5G capability. What’s interesting is Oppo added a ‘LinkBoost’ feature to the phone, enhancing its signal transmission and signal reception — thanks to the phone’s 360-degree antenna design. Beyond 5G, the phone offers the usual suspects: WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC.

This phone is certainly a marathon runner when it comes to battery life. The 5,000mAh battery easily lasted me over a day on a single charge. In fact, our PCMark battery test clocked in at an impressive 19 hours and 34 minutes. And if it ever dips low, the 67W SuperVOOC technology charges it back to full in just about an hour.

Oppo Reno11 F Review (2)

Speaking of charging, the settings let you enable “smart charging” which adjusts the charging pattern based on your habits to slow down battery aging. Plus, there’s a “Stop charging at 80%” option, just like on iPhones, to further extend its battery lifespan.

Conclusion

To wrap this up, the OPPO Reno11 F 5G might not be the top dog in the pack, but it’s one of the playful pups that wags its tail the hardest.

Sure, it might not be the most hardcore gamer out there, but it knows how to entertain with smooth performance and an above-average battery life.

Oppo Reno11 F 17

The “F” might stand for “fun,” but it also seems to stand for “functionality.” Bloatware might be a bit of a buzzkill, and the design language might be a tad inconsistent in my opinion, but these are minor gripes in the grand scheme of things.

If you’re looking for a phone that delivers a solid performance, vibrant visuals, great cameras, and a touch of personality without breaking the bank, the OPPO Reno11 F 5G deserves a spot on your shortlist.

Speaking of, we currently don’t have the final price for the OPPO Reno11 F 5G, but we’ll update this article once the device officially launches in the Philippines. For now, be on the lookout for the latest news and updates about the Reno11 F 5G either through our socials or website. Stay tuned!
