Currently, the most popular method for the ISP to provide you with a connection is to use a fiber wire that connects from a NAP (Network Access Point) box outside the house to your modem. If you have a small house, most of the time the stock modem is already sufficient to cover the entire area with WiFi. However, if you have dead spots, you’ll need to use a WiFi mesh system.
The tricky part about using a WiFi mesh system is that it works via wireless signals, which means the structure of the house can affect its performance. Huge houses with thick walls and multiple floors can be very tricky. The further the node is from the main router, the slower the internet speed it can deliver.
Users who are close to the main router will probably get the best speeds but as you move away and connect to other nodes, you will experience a slower internet connection.
In other words, a traditional mesh network will deliver inconsistent speeds depending on your location. You might get 100 Mbps in the living room but 50 Mbps in the bedroom.
Enter FTTR solution
Without being too technical, the Globe FTTR solution employs a similar concept, but instead of the nodes connecting to each other via wireless signals, it will use optical cable networking. In other words, it’s a wired mesh network.
One advantage of this is that you won’t see thick cables hugging the walls of your home, like how cable TV contractors install coaxial cables. Instead, it will use a transparent optical cable using a hot-melt telescopic adhesive solution. It is almost invisible so it won’t ruin your home’s aesthetics.
In summary, FTTR technology literally brings a fiber connection to each key room in the house. The rooms will have their own terminals/hubs where you can connect WiFi 6 routers so you can start enjoying fast, consistent, and stable wireless internet wherever you are in the house.
