So let’s say you’re stuck at home because of the ongoing pandemic and thinking of spending your time binge-watching shows on Netflix. The only problem is, you don’t know what to watch or where to start given the huge catalog of shows. Well, we’ve made some recommendations with stories that revolve around viral outbreaks. Let’s start!
Pandemic: How to Prevent an Outbreak
This is a six episodes docu-series that shows the heroes on the front lines of the battle against influenza and their efforts to stop the next global outbreak. It also discusses the possible sources of animal-borne flu viruses that could cause the next pandemic, how the worldwide healthcare system is ill-equipped to handle it, and how there are people on the bleeding edge of medical research racing the clock to come up with vaccines to handle these rapidly-mutating pathogens now and in the future.
Outbreak (Netflix US)
A combination of sci-thriller and mid-90’s action film. The story is about a fictional Ebola-like virus discovered in an African jungle and made its way in the U.S. It shows how a virus can quickly spread and how the government uses drastic measures to contain the outbreak.
93 Days
This is a two-hour movie showing heroic health workers fight to contain an Ebola outbreak when a patient arrives in Lagos with symptoms of the deadly virus. It’s based on a true story which adds to the excitement.
28 Weeks Later
If you want something that is post-apocalyptic, you can check this one out. Six months after the rage virus inflicted on the population of Great Britain, the US Army travel and helps to secure a small area of London for the survivors to repopulate and start again.
The Rain
Another post-apocalyptic movie. Six years after a brutal virus carried by the rain wiped out almost all humans in Scandinavia, two Danish siblings emerge from the safety of their bunker to find all remnants of civilization gone. Soon they join a group of young survivors and together set out on a danger-filled quest through abandoned Scandinavia, searching for any sign of life.
Between
Between is the story of a town under siege from a mysterious disease that has wiped out everybody that is 22 years and older. Survivors of a certain town must now fend for themselves when the government quarantines them.
Quarantine
A television reporter and her cameraman trapped inside a building quarantined by the CDC after the outbreak of a mysterious virus which turns humans into bloodthirsty killers. If you want to start going for zombie shows, include this one.
Cargo
Since we’re already in the zombie genre, add Cargo to the playlist. It’s a story about a father that searches the wilds of Australia for someone willing to protect and care for his infant daughter amid a deadly pandemic.
World War Z
This one will really get your heart thumping. The story is about a former U.N. employee that is tasked to travel around the world and race against time to find a cure and stop the spread of a deadly zombie pandemic.
Z Nation
Three years after the zombie virus has gutted the United States of America, a team of everyday heroes must transport the only known survivor of the plague from New York to California, where the last functioning viral lab waits for his blood.
So there you have it, a list of movies and series that you can binge-watch during your self-quarantine and social distancing. However, we don’t recommend these shows to those who are already experiencing anxiety because of the current situation. Just stay safe and healthy.
