Google data shows Gen Z dominating AI search activity

Listen to article

Google says Gen Z users are now the most active users of AI-powered search, as younger audiences increasingly rely on tools like Gemini for everyday queries.

The insight was shared during a recent online roundtable, highlighting how search behavior is shifting toward more conversational and AI-assisted interactions.

According to Google, Gen Z’s familiarity with digital platforms has made them more open to using AI tools for learning, decision-making, and exploring personal interests.

In Southeast Asia, the trend is particularly strong. Data shows that 89% of Gen Z users in the Philippines use Google Search every day, alongside similar figures in Indonesia and Thailand.

With the integration of Gemini into Search, users can now interact with AI in a more natural, conversational way. The system can also adapt based on user behavior, helping deliver more relevant and personalized results over time.

Google said this shift is changing how people use search, from typing keywords to engaging in deeper, back-and-forth queries.

The company also addressed concerns around safety, especially as younger users increasingly turn to AI for advice and sensitive topics.

Google said its AI systems are designed with safeguards, including the ability to detect potentially harmful queries and guide users toward appropriate resources. The company added that AI is not meant to replace human connection, and controls remain in place for users to manage how AI features are used.
