Top 7 TV Series Recommendations on Netflix

Got nothing to do or simply just taking a break from all the work? You can always relax by surfing the net or going out to watch movies. But if you just want to kick back in your couch and binge watch on something worth your while, there’s always Netflix to count on. With hundreds of available content right at your fingertips, here are our top 7 recommendations for TV series available this 2017.

The list below is arranged in no particular order and is made of shows with their original production commissioned by Netflix or had additional seasons commissioned by Netflix.

House of Cards

House of Cards is based on the UK mini-series of the same name and focuses on the greed and corruption that happen behind the scenes in American politics. It follows US representative Francis Underwood who was initially promised the post of Secretary of State in exchange for his support to ensure the election of one Garrett Walker into presidency.

You Me Her

A show that tells a story of a suburban married couple who is starting to feel like the ‘spark’ of their relationship is slowly fading. This eventually leads to them entering a three-way romantic/sexual relationship and shows the things and events that follow thereafter. The show is promoted as TV’s first polyromantic comedy and originally aired last year with its second season kicking off just last February 14, 2017.

Sense8

If you’re into mystery and drama then Sense8 should be right up your alley. It is about eight individuals in different places who find themselves connected — first by a violent vision, then by their shared ability to connect with one another’s thoughts, and by the sense of urgency to find out why this happened. Although, the journey to find answers isn’t an easy one as a mysterious organization begins to hunt them down.

The series is made by renowned filmmakers Lana Wachowski and Lilly Wachowski (formerly known as the Wachowski brothers). It’s also interesting to note that shooting of the series takes place all over the world in order to keep up with the premise.

Narcos

Following the true story of the rise and fall of Colombian kingpin Pablo Escobar and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) agents hunting him, Narcos is a gritty drama-themed, drug-peddling show that always has exciting cliffhangers that beg you to continue to the next episode. It’s got some similarities to Breaking Bad — but with cocaine and marijuana instead of meth.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

Taken from Lemony Snicket’s best-selling series of books of the same title, this Netflix adaptation takes a look at the lives of three orphans under the care of their evil guardian Count Olaf which is played by Neil Patrick Harris. While the children are investigating their parents’ mysterious deaths, Count Olaf, on the other hand, will stop at nothing to get his hands on the wealth of the orphans. Throughout the series, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny must outsmart Olaf at every turn, uncovering his devious plans and not-so-subtle disguises.

The OA

Prarie Johnson is a young woman who suddenly disappeared without a trace. After seven years has passed, she suddenly comes back home as if nothing happened. Although, this isn’t the biggest mystery that her parents are puzzled with. Formerly a blind person, Prarie can now see but she doesn’t want to talk about what had happened during the time that she disappeared. This mind-bending series is set to boggle your thoughts and as it did ours.

Riverdale

Last but definitely not the least, Riverdale takes a darker approach to the famous Archie comics that a 90’s kid like me grew up with. The characters are all there including Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, and the rest of the gang — only this time, some of them sort of have a different vibe underlying each of their characters. The story takes off at the mysterious death of Cheryl Blossom’s brother. It started recently with only 4 episodes in (at the time of writing).

I would say the teasers didn’t appeal to me personally but the presentation of characters and exposition of the story had me wanting more after every episode.
