Fast Five: Digital TV Boxes you can buy in the Philippines

While newer LED TVs that are available in the market today have added support for ISDB-T Digital TV, a lot of households are still holding onto their old ones and won’t replace them until they’re really broken down. With the transition to Digital TV on the way, it’s best to invest in a Digital TV box to remain unaffected should that time come in 2020. Here are some of the common DTV boxes we’ve seen in stores and online.

Author’s Note: The list is in order of price, from the most to least expensive.

Solar’s EasyTV is loaded with additional channels normally seen on cable TVs such as History, BTV, and NBA Premium TV, but these come at an expensive price. The EasyTV is one of the more expensive ones with a PHP 2,999 price tag for the unit alone and a one-year subscription to the premium channels. Renewing those channels, once they expire, will cost you PHP 999 each year.

This is probably one of the most popular DTV boxes around the country. It features exclusive channels ranging from Pinoy classics to educational shows and episode re-runs, as well as pay-per-view movies and K-dramas. It’s priced at PHP 1,499. A bundled pack with a Baron DTV antenna for a better signal reception is also available for PHP 1,999. ABS-CBN is also exploring a subscription-based use for five additional channels that were added only this year. GMA, where art thou?

There’s also WIN, which we have previewed a couple of years back. It’s still out in the market and could be a reliable TV box for your Digital viewing habits. It’s currently priced in the market at PHP 1,499 and can be bought online.

RCA DV1501 Digibox

RCA is known for offering its own line of consumer electronics, and they also have their own version of a Digital TV box with added multimedia functions including video recording and playback. It’s priced at PHP 1,599 and is available in authorized stores and dealers.

Starcube Digital TV Box

From the same company that offers Starmobile in the phone market, here’s their take on the Digital TV box called Starcube. It also has the same features as the RCA Digibox for a lot less at PHP 1,290.

That’s it for some of the top Digital TV boxes bought today. Which one is in your household right now? Let us know in the comments section below.
