One of the highlights of Acer‘s booth at the 2023 Computex is the Predator section. It’s easy to get confused about which model is the newest given the majority of laptops on display. But we were told that the Predator Triton 16 is one of the newest additions to the brand’s gaming lineup. In fact, it was only launched at the event itself.
The Predator Triton 16 acts as the middle child of the Triton lineup. However, it is by no means short on power. According to Acer, the Predator Triton 16 is available with the latest Intel Core i9-13900H processor together with up to 32GB of DDR5 RAM and up to 1TB SSD Storage. As for the GPU, up to an NVIDIA RTX 4070.
It’s not as powerful as the Predator Triton 17 X beside it, but it still packs a punch. Not to mention it is more compact and lighter, making it easier to carry it around. The design itself is a bit more sedate as well.
This particular model is in a silver-gray color, which makes it stand out compared to the other black Predator laptops. It does look a bit more low-key, but there are plenty of RGB accents to go around, giving the laptop more flair.
As the name implies, it features a 16-inch display with Quad HD+ resolution and even a 240Hz refresh rate. The colors do look great, and the blacks are deep. We’re not sure how accurate the screen is, but it does look great when playing Bethesda’s new Redfall game in the highest resolution.
It might not pack an RTX 4090 GPU, but even with Redfall set in the highest resolution, there were no drops in framerates. Based on what we saw, FPS was consistent at around 100+, which is good.
In terms of ergonomics, the keyboard is easy to use with proper spacing. I’m glad Acer didn’t fit a full-size keyboard with the number pad since it would be quite hard to use given the small size. Like the keyboard, the trackpad is also nice and smooth, but if you’re gaming I still recommend a mouse. There are also several ports available including an ethernet port, several USB-A, and even a Thunderbolt 4 port. The laptop itself is quite light, weighing only 2.4kg according to Acer. As a result, it’s relatively easy to carry around despite being a gaming laptop.
There’s no word yet regarding the price of the Acer Predator Triton 16 in the Philippines, but don’t expect it to be cheap given the specs it has. We’re excited to give this gaming laptop a proper review once it becomes available in the Philippines given its relatively compact size and weight.
