Lenovo Vibe P1 Review

डिज़ाइन और निर्माण

सबसे पहले जो बात आपको वीभ पी1 में नज़र आएगी, वह है उसका आकर्षक डिज़ाइन और प्रीमियम बिल्ड। सामने का हिस्सा हमें वनप्लस 2 की याद दिलाता है। सामने एक 5.5-इंच IPS डिस्प्ले है, जिसमें फुल एचडी रेज़ोल्यूशन है या 401ppi, जिसे गोरिल्ला ग्लास 3 से जोड़ा गया है। डिस्प्ले स्पष्ट और जीवंत है, जिसमें अच्छे रंग और बेहतर व्यूइंग एंगल हैं।

Above it are the earpiece and the 5 megapixel front-facing camera. Down below is the physical home button that also doubles as the fingerprint scanner, and at its left and right sides are illuminated capacitive buttons for Recent apps and Back.

Situated on the left side is the OneKey Power Saver switch to turn on its power saving mode. Found on the right side are the buttons for the volume and power/lock.

Right up top are the headset jack and pinhole for the microphone. This top part is also removable which reveals a SIM tray for two nano-sized SIM cards and a separate slot for the microSD.

Down at the bottom are the microUSB port as well as the speaker and microphone.

Flip it on its back and you will see the curved metallic body which reminds us of the HTC One. Here you can see the 13 megapixel camera with dual-tone LED flash and NFC.

On hand, the Vibe P1 feels premium which is not common for a device priced under Php15K. It’s slightly hefty at 187g and a bit chunky at 9.9mm (justified given the 5,000mAh battery) but it has this certain appeal that makes you want to hold it every now and then. Overall, this is one of the nicest phones that Lenovo has released to date.

Display and Multimedia

The Vibe P1 enters the phablet category at 5.5 inches with Full HD resolution or equal to 401ppi. It has an IPS panel for good viewing angles and Corning's Gorilla Glass 3 for protection.

Display is sharp with accurate colors which are good for viewing photos and watching movies. When it comes to brightness, we noticed that it uses a dimmer setting when indoors and could use some boost.

It comes with a few features as well, like Color Balance modes which adjust tone and saturation, Brightness protection for night time browsing, and Smart Brightness to improve visibility in hard light environments like outdoors.

As for sound quality, the down-firing loudspeakers is capable of producing really loud sounds with an acceptable amount of bass. It's very crisp and capable of filling up a small room.

Camera

The Vibe P1 boasts a 13-megapixel rear camera with phase detection autofocus and dual-tone LED flash. Autofocus is fast, even in dim environments, shoots quick, while the resulting images are sharp with rich yet accurate colors.

It doesn't have a lot of in-camera features though, as you're limited to Panorama, HDR, and filter effects. There's no Manual mode, but you can adjust in Settings the White Balance and ISO.

The 5 megapixel front camera, on the other hand, takes care of Selfies. It has a wide-angle lens with face tracking but doesn't have built-in effects. Not really a downer as you can download photo editing apps at the Play Store.

As for video recording prowess, the rear camera can shoot full HD clips at 30fps in MP4 format. Video quality is similar to stills and has good dynamic range, however, the autofocus is slow to adjust which often forces us to "tap-to-focus" to make sure the subject is sharp. OS, UI, and Apps

Running the software department is Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with VIBE UI. Layout is straightforward as it doesn't feature an app drawer. Like most Lenovo smartphones, it comes with its own Theme Center if you wish to change its looks. Still, we prefer the customization options and looks offered by select launchers in the Play Store.

The Vibe P1 comes with a lot of pre-installed apps. Aside from the usual Google apps, there's Guvera Music, LateRooms, a few games, WeChat, Evernote, Navigate, CamScanner, CamCard, UC Browser, and WPS Office, Facebook and Twitter. All of these can be uninstalled though, which is a good thing, however, it's a cumbersome task removing them one by one.

As for storage, the Vibe P1 has 32GB of internal storage with 24.32GB as usable which is still good. For the multimedia heavy users, the memory can be expanded via microSD card up to 128GB and supports USB OTG as well for quick file transfers.

Another notable feature of the Vibe P1 is the fingerprint scanner which is also uncommon for a phone of its class. It's very responsive and sensitive, however its accuracy is easily affected if you have sweaty fingertips. Another downside is it is only limited to storing two fingerprints. In comparison, the iPhone can store up to five.

Performance and Benchmarks

Powering the device is a 1.5GHz 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 Octa-core CPU, Adreno 405 GPU, and 2GB RAM - the same configuration as the Lenovo PHAB Plus, Sony Xperia M4 Aqua and Starmobile Knight Elite. As expected, performance is good as it can handle light to heavy tasks well including gaming. Warming can be felt but usually when it's quick charging and playing games.

Connectivity and Call Quality

We are satisfied with what the Vibe P1 has to offer when it comes to connectivity. It has dual-SIM with support for 4G LTE, WiFi with WiFi Boost features which improve WiFi connection when signal is weak, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, FM Radio, and NFC.

We had no problems when it comes to call quality as voice calls are loud and clear. Mobile data also works well as it is able to connect to 4G and 3G networks as long as signal is abundant.

Battery Life

The Vibe P1's main arsenal is its 5,000mAh non-removable battery. This is only the second time we've encountered a smartphone with this capacity (the first was the Starmobile UP Max). Make no mistake, the Vibe P1 can outlast most smartphones out there even with heavy usage. It can even charge other smartphones with its OTG Charging feature. A USB OTG adapter is included in the package.

Using PCMark's benchmark tool, the Vibe P1 got a battery life rating of 13 hours and 41 minutes, ranking second in our battery rankings. As for our routine battery test (1080p video loop, in Airplane mode, at 50% brightness and volume with headset plugged in), it is capable of 20 hours and 12 minutes worth of playback.

It doesn't stop there. The Vibe P1 also has a power manager that gives you control on how apps are utilizing the power, battery saver which is inherent in Android Lollipop, and power saving mode. Take advantage of those features and the Vibe P1 has the potential to last for days. And when the battery goes critical, Lenovo's Rocket Charge takes care of the fast charging. Using its own charger, we can replenish the battery from 5% to full in just a little over an hour.

Conclusion

It's difficult not to like the Vibe P1. It has a premium build with an attractive design, generous quality display, good CPU and RAM that can manage light to heavy tasks, good camera, fingerprint scanner, a slew of connectivity features, and a large 5,000mAh battery. It's basically a tank! And you get all that for Php14,999 which is not bad.

As for the downside, and we're nitpicking, Lenovo's VIBE UI and its default icons could use a revamp to make it more in-line with Android's Material design, and the device itself is thick and hefty, but you can easily sweep that under the rug considering the benefits mentioned above. To conclude, the Vibe P1 is a great phone overall.
