Bureau of Customs seizes gadgets from online shop Kim Store

Produk salah satu toko gadget daring terpopuler di negara ini, Kim Store, telah disita oleh Badan Bea Cukai (BOC) pada Senin, 30 Januari.

According to a report by GMA News Online, agents of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) has seized products consisting of mobile phones, tablets, cameras, audio accessories, and other gadgets, which the bureau believed to be smuggled.

"There are plenty of cases wherein high-end communication and electronic gadgets are smuggled into the country through misdeclaration schemes – a top form of smuggling – used by smugglers to defraud and avoid paying correct duties and taxes to the government," Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) Director Neil L. Estrella said.

According to the BOC, the staff of Kim Store's depot failed to present documents for the imported items. Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) Officer Joel Pinawin said that they are still validating intelligence reports to fully identify the real owners of Kim Store.

Sana naman wag nila samantalahin ang kanilang posisyon para mapasa kanila ang mga gadgets na nasakote nila sa raid na yan, practice fair justice BOC, BIR & NBI.

Mga bossing, quick clarification lang po,

Yes, the “Kimstore” that we raided yesterday was the KimStore owned and operated by Kim Lato and family.

However di lang po limited sa iisang online store ang raid na ito. This is just a part of an ongoing monitoring/raids na ginagawa ng BOC together with other government agencies like BIR and NBI.

May mga ibang online stores pa na kasalukuyang minomonitor sa ngayon and you will see more of these raids in the upcoming weeks.

Unahin kaya nila yung mga stall stall na hindi nag iissue nag resibo. Ang dami sa divi at greenhills oh. Tapos mga online shop na hindi naman registered. Mga walang papeles and all. Kawawa yung mga nagbabayad ng tama nahirapan makalaban sa kanila.

bakit kaya pinayagan ng mga dating customs commissioner/s ang ganitong lakad ng kimstore?
kung legit ang kimstore, bakit hindi magsalita yung mga dating nasa boc?

kung may tax lapses ang kimstore at iba pang online stores, dapat lang magbayad ito ng kaukulang penalty para maiwasan natin ang mga posibleng bagong panukalang taxations…

Good thing i recieved my last order last 2 days ago before mag shutdown c kim.. May pinagdadaanan pala cla kaya may system down pa silang sinabi sakin last week ago which caused a delay of my order. Last 2 days ko lng narecieve package ko..

Well kudos to the new BOC. Someone is taking their job seriously now. Unfortunately, their lower prices also had me lured. Twice. And both times the aftersales were terrible with a capital T, bold and underlined. They are only good until you pay, and a lot of reviews also says so. Like it or not, this is good for us consumers. If you’re already paying, why not pay for something that has an official warranty not the kind of bs service warranty these kinds of online stores provide.

All for the best, really. This really protects consumers. Bought my beloved G2 there way below retail price but the screen broke and had to pay upwards of 8k to Kimstore to fix it. My unit was probably an outlier, but still. You only really see the value of a warranty once you need it.

Di naman masamang mag-online selling ng gadgets, ideclare lang nang tama sa customs ang mga binebenta para di masilip na grey units. This is a blow to the online community. Sana maayos ng kimstore dahil credibility ang at stake dito.

Seems that someone isn’t paid the right amount, if you know the scheme on BOC, you’ll definitely know that there are too much under the table transactions happening everyday, corruption capital indeed.

I used to sell gadgets 7 years ago. Back when Kim store was still starting. I can even give prices lower than theirs. I get my stocks from a legit accredited cellphone distributor (not direct importer) so it was legit. I know kimstore used to do the same. So there wasn’t really illegal about it.
I don’t think Kim store directly imports though. Her prices aren’t really as low as direct importers. Hope they are able to sort it out.

True. Nasa Pilipinas na ang container van containing gadgets. 300k-500k ang labanan per container. That was 5-7 years agox Even the legit cellphone shops with all the documents also include grey market units for their stores.

Nakapasok mga goods nila kasi nga MISDECLARED items mga yan. May fraud at forging sa pagbayad ng TAMANG DUTIES AND TAXES. In short, TECHNICAL SMUGGLING PO ITO which means dadaan parin sa CUSTOMS pero lolokohin nila nga CUSTOMS OFFICER/EXAMINER.

Kim Store Down, eh di naman kayang mag misdeclaration yan kung hindi rin papayag ang agent ng BOC anything coming to BOC diba iniscan to make sure kung ano ang laman ng goods and to validate the documents being procces sa BOC?

That’s precisely my point as well. They declare the value at half the price, whatever savings they have in paying the correct taxes will go to erring customs officials. in the end, para pa ding nagbayad ng correct duties and taxes yung importer, yun nga lang, napabilis yung release ng cargo nya sa BOC kasi na haggle na ng BOC officials kung magkano sa kanila.

Miss Call, this is also a way of protecting consumers. Smuggled goods could be fake, kaya siguro mura. Also, kaya pala walang warranty ang kimstore.. Mura nga pero pag nasira mas lugi ka.

Not necessarily. Kaya cheap kasi grey market sya galing sa ibang bansa na mas mura at binebenta dito na may patong pero mas mababa pa din kaysa official SRP dito. Now pwedeng smuggled, pwedeng hindi… Sila na lang nakakaalam nyan. Mag labas sila Kimstore ng dokumento to prove bayad ang mga taxes nyan. If wala, yari…
