DICT tidak memiliki kemampuan untuk melakukan audit terhadap perusahaan fintech seperti GCash

Dalam isu 'rekonsiliasi sistem' GCash, Departemen Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi (DICT) telah mengeluarkan pernyataan bahwa mereka tidak memiliki wewenang untuk mengaudit perusahaan fintech seperti GCash.

"Kami menyampaikan hal ini kepada pemerintah, khususnya kepada DICT. Inilah masalah yang dihadapi oleh lembaga swasta. Kami tidak dapat memeriksa atau masuk ke sana karena kami tidak memiliki wewenang regulasi atas mereka," ujar Sekretaris Asisten DICT Renato Paraiso.

DICT hanya memiliki wewenang untuk memeriksa sistem institusi swasta.

"Banyak juga yang menyalahgunakan insiden di GCash dengan mengirimkan pesan palsu untuk mendapatkan informasi pribadi dari para klien GCash, bahkan informasi keuangan mereka," komentar Paraisio.

I feel like there’s a lot to be said. First and foremost, GCash is a wallet and not a bank. You are not supposed to leave huge sums of money where it is not insured by the PDIC, because the question as to who will be accountable is vague. Second, GCash operates in somewhat unchartered waters, thus, not much regulation is in place to safeguard clients against attacks. Lastly, financial literacy and “opsec” is not widely thought. This sets the bar for scamming really low. There are other alternatives to gcash such as GoTyme that serves the same function but has the protection of regulations.
