X Introduces Aurora Image Generator for Grok

Listen to article

According to posts by xAI, Elon Musk’s AI startup, X has launched a new image generator named Aurora within its Grok assistant.

Initially made available on Saturday, Aurora was briefly accessible via X’s mobile apps and web platform before being taken down for some users.

As reported by TechCrunch, Aurora offers advanced photorealistic image generation with few restrictions.

It can create images of copyrighted characters and public figures, such as Mickey Mouse and Donald Trump, though explicit nudes appear to be blocked.

Users testing Aurora shared examples of both realistic outputs and flaws, such as distorted human anatomy—an ongoing challenge for AI image models.

Aurora’s release follows X’s decision to make Grok free for all users, with limitations.

Free accounts are allowed up to 10 messages every two hours and three image generations daily, while full access requires X’s Premium subscription at $8 per month.

This development comes as xAI closes a $6 billion funding round and prepares for the release of its next-generation Grok model, Grok 3, alongside a potential standalone app for the assistant.
