Google is set to officially enter the smart tracker market with its first-party Bluetooth tracker, the Google Pixel Tag. Recent retail listings and leaked renders (9to5Google) reveal an elongated, pill-shaped design – distinct from the circular natures of Apple’s AirTag and Samsung’s Galaxy SmartTag. The tracker is expected to officially launch on August 12 alongside the Pixel 11 series.
Identified under model number GA12506 and debuting in a “Fog Light” colorway, the Pixel Tag relies on Google’s updated Find Hub network to locate lost belongings such as keys, wallets, and luggage. The device lacks a built-in lanyard loop, requiring a dedicated case or key ring housing to attach to items. On the flip side, it includes a bottom-mounted loudspeaker for close-range audible tracking.
Hardware details regarding Ultra-Wideband (UWB) precision tracking and battery specifications remain unconfirmed ahead of the announcement.
The Pixel Tag will be officially showcased at the upcoming Made by Google hardware event, where Google is also expected to announce the Pixel 11 series and the Pixel Watch 5. While this device hasn’t gotten as much hype as its siblings, it’s a worthy one to keep an eye on.
Leaked pricing in the European markets (the only one available now) places the device at €34.90. If Google follows standard regional conversion pricing, the tracker is expected to land at around $29 USD to compete directly against the AirTag.
