Merriam-Webster の Collegiate Dictionaryは現在11版を迎え、selfie（セルフィー）、hashtag（ハッシュタグ）、tweep（ツイップ）などの新語を追加しました。これにより、これらの言葉を用いても正式な手紙において眉をひそめられることはありません。

最新の版のMerriam-Webster辞典には、合計150語の新規単語と表現が追加されました。その中には「unfriend（友人関係を解消する）」、「hot spot（Wi-Fiが利用可能な場所を指す）」、「spoiler alert（ネタバレ注意）」といったソーシャルメディア関連の用語も含まれています。しかし、私たちが特に注目した新語の一つは「turducken」です。これは、骨なしチキンを骨なしアヒルに詰め込み、さらにそれを骨なし七面鳥に詰めた料理を指します。
