Infinix ZERO ULTRA Review

가끔씩 주목을 끄는 스마트폰이 출시됩니다. 수많은 스마트폰이 넘쳐나는 시장, 특히 Android 분야에서는 독특함을 찾기 어렵습니다. 이제 인피닉스 ZERO ULTRA를 만나보세요. 브랜드가 지금까지 출시한 가장 프리미엄 스마트폰입니다. 게임 체인징 충전 기능과 정말 고급스러운 디자인을 갖춘 이 스마트폰은 주목을 받을 만합니다. 플래그십 기기처럼 보이고 느껴지지만, 어디서 부족할까요? 확인해 보겠습니다.

디자인 및 건설

인피닉스 ZERO ULTRA는 제 의견으로는 최고의 면에서 큰 스마트폰입니다. 165.5mm에 위치한 이 기기는 6.8인치 디스플레이를 탑재하고 있습니다. 상단에 펀치홀과 상하 최소 베젤이 있습니다. 곡면 디스플레이가 측면에 폭포 효과를 만들어내며, 이는 매우 우아하게 구현되어 전혀 산만하지 않습니다.

스마트폰 뒤쪽에는 200MP 메인 카메라, 13MP 초광각, 2MP 매크로, 그리고 LED 플래시가 포함된 대형 트리플 카메라 모듈이 있습니다. 뒷면을 덮고 있는 텍스처가 있는 플라스틱은 우리 색상인 코스라이트 실버에서 흰 모래 파도가 뒤쪽 전체에 흐르는 듯한 모습을 보여줍니다. 촉감이 매우 고급스럽고 옆면으로 우아하게 곡선이 잡혀 있습니다.

이 기기는 213g으로 작은 스마트폰 사용자를 위해 다소 무겁습니다. 양쪽에 곡선이 있어 한 손으로 잡기에 여전히 매우 편안합니다. 실제보다 더 슬림해 보이며 잡기 쉽습니다. 하지만 네비게이션은 다른 이야기인데, 메시지를 편하게 입력하고 UI를 탐색하려면 양손을 사용해야 할 수도 있습니다. 다만, 기기에 포함된 플라스틱 케이스가 얇고 Infinix ZERO ULTRA에 큰 부피를 추가하지 않는다는 점은 주목할 만합니다.

디바이스에 포함되지 않은 것 중 하나는 먼지와 방수 기능입니다. IP 등급이 없다는 점은 아쉽고, 이는 아마도 가격을 낮추기 위해 회사가 일부 비용을 절감한 결과일 것입니다. 그러나 온라인 사용자들 중 일부는 이미 Infinix ZERO ULTRA를 물에 담갔고 IP 등급이 있는 것처럼 견뎌냈다고 말합니다. 이는 스마트폰에 공식적인 IP 등급을 부여받지 못한 경우일 수 있습니다.

디스플레이 및 멀티미디어

Infinix ZERO ULTRA의 6.8인치 디스플레이는 상하 및 측면 모두 매우 얇은 베젤을 가지고 있습니다. AMOLED 패널을 사용해 깊은 검정색과 선명한 색상을 구현합니다. 해상도는 2400 x 1080으로 387ppi에 해당하며, 최대 주사율은 120Hz입니다. 애니메이션, 스크롤 및 일반 UI 탐색이 매우 부드럽습니다. 배터리를 약간 절약하기 위해 주사율을 60Hz로 낮출 수 있는 옵션도 있지만, 자동 조정은 없습니다.

다른 기능으로는 직사광선 아래에서도 화면을 더 밝게 볼 수 있게 해 주지만 배터리를 더 많이 소모하는 고휘도 모드가 있으며, EyeCare 기능과 밝은 색상(생동감 있는 색상에 해당) 및 원본 색상 설정이 있습니다.

시청 경험은 화면이 Full HD+ 해상도에서도 매우 선명해 정말 몰입감이 있습니다. 밝기가 매우 높아 최대 900니트까지 지원하므로 야외에서도 전혀 문제가 되지 않았습니다. 마지막으로 듀얼 스피커는 매우 크게 울리며, 저음이 다소 부족하지만 보컬이 선명하게 나오고, Top Gun: Maverick 같은 영화를 이 기기에서 보는 것이 생각보다 더 몰입감 있었습니다. DTS 사운드를 지원해 음악, 비디오, 게임, 스마트 모드에 맞게 사운드를 조정할 수 있으며, 원하는 경우 오디오를 개인화할 수 있는 이퀄라이저도 제공합니다.

카메라

Infinix ZERO ULTRA는 세 개의 카메라를 탑재했으며, 200MP 메인 카메라는 회사가 Samsung Isocell HP1 센서라고 부르는 센서가 구동하고, 13MP 초광각, 2MP 매크로 렌즈가 있습니다. 200MP 카메라는 스마트폰의 주요 판매 포인트 중 하나이며, 대체로 실망시키지 않습니다.

The images produced are sharp albeit a bit too saturated for my tastes. The 200MP does well in most situations and can actually compete with smartphones more expensive than this one. Do take note though that in the regular AI camera mode, it only takes 12MP pictures which are already sharp enough for everyday use. You have to manually select the 200MP mode in order to use the full power of the sensor.

Using the 200MP mode on the camera definitely raises the detail that you can see in a picture, but it also raises the file size to around 70MB per picture, which clearly will eat up your memory in no time. The 200MP also takes a bit of time as it asks you to hold the phone for around 2 seconds before it completes the photo. This might be a software issue with our review unit, or is a processor issue as this doesn’t use the most powerful processor around to power that massive sensor.

As long as you have good light though, I don’t see the need to use that 200MP mode, the regular AI or Pro mode creates sharp enough images for you to use everyday. Lastly, the portrait photo mode on the smartphone is a bit too aggressive as I had a hard time using it properly because it kept blurring a part of the subject's face.

When it comes to video recording, the Infinix ZERO ULTRA can shoot up to 4K at 30fps and 1080 up to 60fps. The quality is mostly the same as images and comes with good stabilization as seen in the sample video where we’re just moving and walking around.

OS and Apps

For the software, it runs on XOS 12 based on Android 12. It’s a very simple UI with some traits copied from a certain fruit company out there. Overall though, it is very easy to navigate and use and gives you enough personalization to suit your needs. It defaults to a gesture based navigation which is pretty natural to use especially with the curved sides and features an app drawer when you swipe up from below.

As for special features, the device has a quick sidebar that can be accessed by long swiping from either corner and features your most used apps. It also has Power Marathon, which customizes your battery use, Folax, a Voice Assistant that works offline, and Lightning Multi Window which opens a floating window of an app that allows you to multi-task easier.

A software issue that I’ve had though with XOS was the lack of some of the apps on the Google Play Store. I had to use Infinix’ own Palm Store to find apps such as GCash and Netflix which was a bit weird because the store didn’t have the latest versions of the apps. It would also sometimes stop playing Netflix videos, I had to restart the device a couple of times in order to continue playing a video I was watching.

There’s quite a bit of bloatware installed in the device that can’t be removed. Though it has all your usual Google apps as well. This device has 256GB of storage which is more than enough for users.

Performance and Benchmarks

Powering the Infinix ZERO ULTRA is a MediaTek Dimensity 920 chipset with an octa-core CPU clocked at a maximum of 2.5Ghz. It also features a Mali-G68 MC4 GPU and 8GB of RAM with up to 5GB of RAM expansion. When it comes to regular everyday performance, this device does well enough.

Apps always launched quickly and I never had a problem multi-tasking with the device. It’s very snappy considering it sports a medium range processor. Games like Genshin Impact and Tower of Fantasy defaulted to high settings but that didn’t net me the high FPS that I was looking for so I ended up settling for lower graphic settings in order to play my games smoothly. Connectivity and Battery Life

For connectivity, we have a dual-SIM card slot with 5G, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, A-GPS, and FM radio. For biometrics, there’s an in-display fingerprint scanner and face unlock. The fingerprint scanner is very fast and rarely misses while the face unlock is very impressive as it sometimes beats my fingerprint scan and could detect me in dark lighting conditions.

And we are, the crowning glory of this smartphone, the battery. It’s not the capacity that will surprise you, as it only sports 4,500mAh capacity (which by the way lasts a long while), but the fast charging capability of this smartphone. The smartphone lasted around 21 hours in a video loop test which is very good. But the 180W Thunder Charge really changes things. It was able to charge the battery from 0 to 50% in around 5 minutes and a full charge at around 18 minutes. This allows me to use the phone as much as I want, drain the battery, plug it in, and do something for a few minutes and just like that, I’m back to full charge.

Conclusion

The Infinix ZERO ULTRA gets a lot of things right, it looks and feels like a flagship smartphone with that curved display and textured back. Its screen gets very bright and is very sharp, while the camera system more or less takes great shots in most scenarios, with some software hiccups here and there that we hope Infinix would fix with a software update.

It’s not hard to take a look at the device though, coming in at PHP 21,999 for the lone 8GB + 256GB model, that’s a pretty sweet deal for what you get. Watch out also flash sales that the company has which will bring down the price of the device even more. There’s not a lot of compromise here especially with that 180W Thunder Charge, it is a game changer in how you use your smartphone.
