Xiaomi Box 5, Box 5 Max now official: HyperOS, Dolby Vision

Xiaomi has released two new Android-based streaming devices in China, namely the Xiaomi Box 5 and Box 5 Max.

The regular Box 5 features a quad-core Cortex-A55 CPU, Mali-G310 V2 GPU, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage. Meanwhile, the Box 5 Max steps it up with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, providing more room for local content and better multitasking.

Both models support 4K resolution (3840 × 2160) and include Xiaomi’s AI-SR engine, which enhances lower resolution content by sharpening details and improving clarity, especially for older 720p and 1080p videos.

For audio, the devices support Dolby Vision and DTS:X for enhanced sound. They also pass through 7.1.4-channel audio to compatible home theater systems bringing a more immersive experience.

The boxes measure 97 by 97.1mm wide and only 17mm tall, weighing less than 100g.

Connectivity-wise, both the Box 5 and Box 5 Max come with dual-band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2. And for I/Os, it comes with an HDMI, USB 2.0, and DC power input ports.

Running on Xiaomi’s HyperOS, both devices can also function as a smart home hub when paired with the Mi Home app. They include Xiaomi’s Xiao AI voice assistant for voice commands related to streaming and smart home control.

The remote supports NFC screen casting, allowing users to easily cast content from their smartphone by tapping it on the remote.

Price and availability

Both models are now available for pre-order in China with the following prices below:

  • Xiaomi Box 5 – CNY 299
  • Xiaomi Box 5 Max – CNY 499

Shipments begin May 15th in the region, though no word yet for a global release.
