Cherry Mobile Cubix CubeBook, First Impressions

Apart from the three Cubix smartphones that were released yesterday, Cherry Mobile also released a laptop, under the same lineup, that is focused on students who are on a tight budget. Introducing the Cherry Mobile Cubix CubeBook.

Out of the box, the CubeBook pretty much resembles Apple’s MacBook due to its build and design. It sports a matte finish cover which makes it less prone to fingerprints and smudges. You’d also notice the thick bezels surrounding the 14-inch screen display, which we think is not much of a bother as the graphics look clear and bright. You’d also spot the VGA webcam on top of the screen.

The trackpad is wide enough for you to freely navigate and typing on the chiclet keyboard feels pretty okay. But we think it’d be quite an experience if the keyboard expanded for a little bit since there is too much space on the sides.

On its left side, you’d see the charging, USB 2.0, and HDMI port. Another USB 2.0 port can be found on the right, including the 3.5mm headset jack and microSD slot.

Flip on its back and you’d find the speaker grille on both opposite ends of the laptop, as well as four rubber grips to prevent your laptop from slipping.

Powering the laptop is a 1.33Ghz quad-core CPU, Intel Atom Z3735F, Intel HD graphics, Windows 10, 2GB RAM, 32GB internal storage (expandable up to 128GB via microSD), and 10000mAh battery. Considering its specs, it’s definitely apparent that this is only good for productivity use such as using Word, Excel, Powerpoint, as well as light activities like watching videos.

14-inch 1366 x 768 TN display
1.33GHz Intel Atom Z3735F quad-core CPU
Intel HD Graphics
32GB storage

10,000mAh battery

The Cubix CubeBook is now available at Lazada and comes with a price of Php6,999. See listing here.

Sadly, Microsoft will cut its support to Atom processors. So we will be stuck with an old version of Windows 10. Saaaaad :'( More: https://www.theverge.com/2017/7/19/16001366/microsoft-windows-10-creators-update-atom-pcs

    That doesn’t look like an HDMI port… it’s a mini-HDMI.

Meaning you might need an adaptor or a different cable to connect to TVs or projectors.
