5 Reasons to Buy the Realme 5i

Realme has officially launched in the Philippines the Realme 5i. It’s the company’s most affordable smartphone under the Realme 5 family but packs competitive mid-range specs, including a massive 5,000mAh battery. If you’re thinking about getting this device, let us give you five reasons why you should.

Nice design

Although it has plenty of similarities to the Realme 5 in terms of specs, we’re glad that Realme made some differences in the design of the Realme 5i to make it stand out. It sports a Sunrise Design, which simulates the rays of the sun. It also has this textured finish and metallic paint job in Aqua Blue and Forest Green. Aside from that, it’s solidly built and has a large 6.5-inch screen for your multimedia needs.

Quad-rear cameras

The Realme 5i wants to be your daily photography companion by sporting four rear cameras consisting of a 12MP primary, 8MP ultrawide, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth sensors, making it a versatile shooter. For selfies, it has an 8MP sensor, which is more than enough for social media posts.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 AIE

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset was announced last year. It has an octa-core CPU with clock speeds up to 2.0GHz, Adreno 610 GPU, 3GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage with a dedicated microSD card slot. It may not be as powerful as the Snapdragon 700-series, but this makes the Realme 5i one of the most affordable Snapdragon 665-powered device on the market.

5,000mAh battery

The Realme 5i also wants you to forget about bringing a power bank as it is equipped with a massive 5,000mAh battery. That’s more than enough to satisfy heavy users. If you spend hours on mobile gaming, binge-watching on YouTube or Netflix, or taking photos and videos, the Realme 5i won’t leave you empty in the middle of the day.

Competitive price

One of the impressive things about the Realme 5i is the price. At PHP 6,990 for the 3GB + 64GB model, it’s one of the best value smartphones out there. So, if you’re on a hunt for a competitively priced mid-range smartphone, make sure to check out the Realme 5i.

One reason not to buy because there’s an alternative redmi 8.

I agree with this on the basis of subjectivity. It depends on which aspect of the phone are you going to prioritize.

The only edge Realme 5i got is supposedly the midrange Snapdragon 665 chipset, but coupled with the clumsy ColorOS UI it is underwhelming. You can only be happy with gaming. Or wait for custom ROMs if you can’t stand the OS.

On the other hand, Redmi 8 chose the entry level Snapdragon 439. Although raw performance is quite anemic, you can get by with casual usage. You can game with it as well though not as good as that of Snapdragon 665.

Everything else, Redmi 8 has quite the advantage. The MIUI is alot mature, snappy and more battery friendly (even against custom AOSP ROMs). It has USB type C too. Fir the display and battery, both are virtually on par with each other.

      Redmi 8 64gb/4gb is at the same price with Realme 5i 64gb/3gb @ php7k.

One reason NOT to buy is the fingerprint scanner mounted on the back…. useless!

    • Avatar for XYZ XYZ says:

      1. ALL IPS LCD display cannot implement an in-display fingerprint scanner. It’s either mounted on the back or side, or wherever except the screen. Only AMOLED screens do.

      2. Side-mounted fingerprint scanner became lesser in usage because it needs sufficient surface area, meaning the smartphone will become thicker, which OEMs avoid unless necessary. Thin smartphones with side-mounted fp scanner means lesser accuracy for daily use. And then there’s the issue of positioning for short and long thumb consumers.

      3. I shouldn’t have bothered replying to this but for the sake of other readers out there, they should be informed.

      4. Ignorance is bliss.
