Samsung’s new flagship duo just made it into the limelight recently and they sure have a lot to offer — From new and improved cameras to 18.5:9 Super AMOLED displays. Although, what are bits and pieces that truly make them shine? Let’s find out. Here are the 7 best features of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+.

18.5:9 Super AMOLED Displays
As anyone would’ve guessed, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ are equipped with 18:9 displays, or rather 18.5:9. It’s a weird aspect ratio, we know, but with that change, Samsung was able to improve both devices screen to body ratio to 83.2% (S9) and 84.2% (S9+). You also get a lot more screen space for movies, videos, and even games. Not to mention, the displays are using Super AMOLED, so expect rich blacks, excellent contrast, and vibrant colors.
Improved Performance
You won’t be called a flagship if you’re not equipped with the best the tech world has to offer right? Well, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ very much stays true to that branding. Depending on the region the new pair will either sport the new Exynos 9810 octa-core processor from their mother company or the new standard bearer chip from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 845. Either way, both chips boast beefy performance and top-of-the-line features.
Excellent low-light camera performance
With the new set of cameras, Samsung is boasting an improved low-light performance of about 60%. That increase in performance was achieved thanks to the new camera sensors and the f/1.5 to f/2.4 aperture settings that takes in about 28% more light. Of course, we already know that the previous generation Galaxy flagships have superb low-light performance, the newer pair just improved on that.
960fps Slow-mo
If there’s one thing we hate when taking videos of memories is that some of them just go by too fast. Well, with the Galaxy S9 and S9+’ new slow-mo feature that no longer has to be the case. The new Galaxy duo flagship now has the ability to capture footage at 0.2 seconds at a time, which can bring even the speediest of running kids to a halt, on cameras of course. A small catch though, it can only shoot 720p footage. Then again, that’s still enough to make funny meme’s and glorious wet hair flips.
AR Avatar
Whether Samsung became jealous of Apple’s Animoji feature or they just wanted to make their own front camera gimmick, the new AR avatar feature of the S9 and S9+ is certainly a fun addition. As for how it works, the front cameras analyzes a users face then recreates it into a virtual avatar. After that, this avatar can be sent over to messaging apps as GIFs and can also mimic a user’s face, similar to what we saw with Apple’s Animoji.
Live focus and Auto Scene Selection
With everything moving towards Artificial Intelligence, it’s only right that Samsung equipped their new Galaxy flagships with a few intelligent features. Most notably the pair’s cameras, which now have Live Focus and Auto Scene Selection. This is the first time the flagship S series receives this feature and it is a very welcome addition.
Improved Biometric Securities
It’s not necessarily new, but Samsung improved the security on the Galaxy S9 and S9+. We still have the same set of security features such as a fingerprint scanner, facial recognition, and iris scanner, only this time they’re much better. Which is a must, since as technology moves forward so does the threats to its security.
And there you have it! The S9 and S9+ may not look like new phones on the outside but a lot has certainly changed in the inside. Those changes could easily propel the pair into the phones to beat this early 2018.
