Apple investigates reports of iPhone 8 Plus ‘splitting open’

Apple is investigating reports of the iPhone 8 Plus ‘splitting open’ while it is charging.

The iPhone 8 Plus was released just recently, but there have already been a couple of reports of the device’s front panel lifting from the rest of the device while it was charging.

The first report was from an iPhone 8 Plus (see image above) owner in Taiwan. According to The Next Web, the owner charged the device using the supplied cable and adapter. After three minutes, she reported seeing the phone’s front panel bulge then completely lift from the device. The second report came from an owner in Japan and observed the same issue.

Taiwanese outlets have mentioned that the phone has been recovered by the carrier and have been shipped to Apple for analysis.

The Independent reports that Apple confirmed that it was “looking into” the said reports but have declined to comment further.

It used to be antenna-gate. Then there was bend-gate. What shall we call this one…’bulge-gate’?
