Apple iPhone 12 mini ranks above Huawei Mate 30 Pro, Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 on DXOMark

Apple iPhone 12 mini has recently scored 122 points for the camera review of DXOMark, placing above the Huawei Mate 30 Pro and Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 only by one point. Its camera ranking is placed in the 12th spot, sharing it with the iPhone 12 and Honor V30 Pro.

Although the iPhone 12 mini has the same camera system as the iPhone 12, it has significant focus differences. The iPhone 12 mini displayed more unstable behavior, especially when recording video. However, it garnered the same results for photo, zoom, and video as the iPhone 12.

The iPhone 12 mini’s camera performs very well in general, with target exposure accurate in most conditions and good preservation of fine details. It is mostly on target in terms of exposure though the dynamic range is somewhat limited, with some clipping of highlights.  Dynamic range is limited, with highlights clipped in most tested conditions. Sometimes, there are blue and white. Balance casts and visible noise in low-lighting and indoor environments.

As for the video, target exposure is generally accurate, and the dynamic range is fairly wide. The color rendering and skin tones are pleasing in most tested conditions. Autofocus is fast and accurate both indoors and out. As for the stabilization, its system works well in static conditions and when walking. Its Dolby Vision HDR processing is also a plus.

“For those looking for a truly pocket-sized smartphone that has a solid camera setup, the Apple iPhone 12 mini is a good bet. It delivers many the same features and quality as the iPhone 12 but at a lower cost and in a smaller form factor. The fact that it doesn’t have a dedicated telephoto module may be off-putting for some enthusiasts, but setting that aside, the iPhone mini compares very well against other top brands’ camera systems. Its video performance is also excellent across a range of conditions and use cases.”
