Last Monday, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) was able to seize 100 Nokia 3310 units from an airline passenger at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 in Pasay City.

The Chinese national airline passenger, Chen Haibi, landed in the Philippines from Guangzhou, China last May 1 on a Philippine Airlines flight and with him are 100 pieces of Nokia 3310 cell phones and chargers totaling Php400,000.
Deputy Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno mentioned that the passenger failed to declare the items and was not able to present requirements like import permits from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC). This eventually led to them seizing the items.

The head of Customs X-ray Inspection Project Maj. Jaybee Raul Cometa has advised to issue a Warrant Seizure and Detention (WSD) for the cargo as it violates an NTC Memorandum Circular and the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

The mentioned items have been reported to be in the custody of the BOC ‘for proper disposition’.
