Flash Plus 2 with 3GB RAM: Benchmark and Gaming Test

Listen to article

The 3GB RAM variant of the Flash Plus 2 is arriving today and, while we’ve already published the full written review and video review, we did another round of benchmark tests and gaming test with the 3GB variant.

We were curious to know whether the additional 1GB of RAM for the Flash Plus2 would have any noticeable impact on the performance of the device. Here are our observations so far:

  • Did not increase boot up time of the handset. The 2GB variant was already enough in term of memory to manage proper speedy boot time.
  • Gaming performance did not improve since most of the work is done by the CPU and graphics anyway.
  • There’s significantly noticeable improvement in multi-tasking. The device still feels snappy with additional windows and apps running actively and in the background. This is the biggest contribution of the additional memory allocation.
  • There’s a little improvement in scores from various benchmark tests, including a 7% increase in Antutu score and 5% increase in PCMark score.

We played NBA2K16 on the device and it went pretty smoothly. We’ve never encountered any lags or dropped frames during our game test. Check out a snippet of our gameplay below:

As for the benchmark results, there is little to no significant improvements in benchmark scores between the 2GB and the 3GB variant.

Here are the scores for our suite of benchmark tests:

Antutu Benchmark – 45,305 (42,220 on 2GB variant)
Quadrant Standard – 15,621 (15,775 on 2GB variant)
PCMark – 4,165 (3,922 on 2GB variant)
PCMark Storage – 2,543
3DMark – 416 (ES 3.1),595 (ES 3.0)

afp or this one?

Thing is, the AFP is stuck at an old version of Android. If you’re ok with that, there are some better performing areas with the AFP, namely the processing power (can play 2k16), cameras and larger capacity battery. Of course the AFP does not have the speedy fingerprint scanner which is a great convenience. The HiFi audio chipset in the FP2 may not also matter if you’re not really into higher quality audio. Technically there’s a better screen with the FP2 and faster charging too. Personally I would have taken the AFP eventhough it’s ugly, but being stuck with an old Android version concerns me.

3gb of ram and still my K3 Note has a higher score in antutu. I think I’m staying with my K3 Note until I found a real successor…of course at this price range too(wishful thinking) :-) I know only 4 cores are running simultaneously obviously this is a downgrade in performance.
