HTC Salsa drops Facebook for Weibo in China

The HTC Chacha’s twin touchscreen phone, HTC Salsa, has not arrived in the Philippines yet but it looks like in China, its got a totally different dedicated button altogether.

Yup, the HTC Salsa Facebook phone is apparently called the HTC Salsa Weibo phone in the mainland {via}. Not really that surprising since Facebook is heavily regulated in China.

The HTC Salsa is supposed to be the full touchscreen version of the Chacha and is labeled as one of the two un-official Facebook phones.

HTC Salsa c510e
3.4 inches display @ 320×480 pixels
800 MHz processor
Adreno 205 GPU, Qualcomm MSM 7227 chipset
Gorilla Glass display
512MB ROM, 512MB RAM
up to 32GB via microSD
HSDPA 7.2Mbps, HSUPA 384Kbps

Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP
5MP camera with LED flash

This Weibo thing is probably huge in China (150M users) and could be the next best thing after FB in the country.

Side note: Imagine, if the HTC Chacha or Salsa came out in 2005 or 2006 in the Philippines, it could have been the Friendster phone too!

  1. Haha, makes sense since Facebook is blocked in China. Weibo is similar to Twitter, actually, and, I think, is really popular there. When I was in Beijing a few months ago I’d often see advertisements of Weibo on the train.

  2. There’s a chatter in the online forums that the HTC Salsa will be released in the Philippines with a “Yugatech” button. LOL! ;)

Honestly, this phone is quite redundant with the HTC Wildfire S already available selling at ~12K only.

    • hahahaha AYUS! With “Yugatech” dedicated button…big time na for sure si Sir Yuga nun! hehehehe

Well popular talaga ang Weibo sa China…billions ba naman nila sa buong mundo… :)

  3. It would have been more sensible if they opted for a Google button instead. Facebook is silly, its users are silly and HTC riding the balls of Zuckerberg is just plain pathetic.

  4. HTC will try a different market for their product like Philippines.
