Huawei Ascend G300 arriving next week at around Php7k

Listen to article

We just got word from Huawei Philippines that a new handset will be released next week. While they did not give the suggested retail price, the Huawei Ascend G300 is selling for $160 elsewhere.

That puts the price of the handset in the vicinity of Php7,000. Considering they have the Ascend Y200 that retails for Php5,490, then the Ascend G300 might sell somewhere in between Php6,990 to Php7,490.

Huawei Ascend G300 (U8815) specs:
4.0″ IPS LCD @ 800×480 pixels, 233ppi
Qualcomm MSM7227A Snapdragon 1.0GHz Cortex A5
Adreno 200 GPU
512MB RAM
4GB internal storage
up to 32GB via microSD
3G/HSDPA
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth 2.1
5MP rear camera with LED flash
FM radio tuner
Android 2.3 Gingerbread
1350mAh Li-Ion battery
122.5 x 63 x 10.5mm (dimensions)
140grams (weight)

The Ascend G300, with its current configuration, will probably perform close to that of the old Galaxy S. We’ll update this post once Huawei gives us the exact retail price.

Updated: We just got word from Huawei that the suggested retail price of the Ascend G300 is Php9,490.

Bought this phone over the weekend. As a 1st time android phone user, I am very happy with the phone’s performance. The pros exceed what little cons it may have. Crossing my fingers for the ICS update later this year. :)

A bit too expensive but I’ve read in other websites that it might be upgradable to ICS. Is there any truth to this?

I cringed when I saw that this phone was still on Gingerbread(!)

Get a freaking Lenovo P700 instead for not a lot of additional coin, Ice Cream Sandwich and all (Also, the ginormous battery.)

Hmmm, Gingerbread for 9.5k? They could have done much better. The battery is a deal-breaker, too. I must admit though, the phone looks really good and slim (maybe the reason why the battery is on the lower-end). Bottomline – it’s a bit expensive for today’s market. A lot of better deals out there.

rslimjr, I’m in the market to buy a new phone now. I’m really interested in this phone but I’m still unsure. Since you wrote, ‘A lot of better deals out there’, can you point me to which phones out there have better price-specs ratio than this one?

Hi Angelo, just read ur post. Lenovo’s P700 is one of the best deals right now. Check out yugatech’s review, I’m sure you’ll appreciate it. BTW, I own one, so I am vouching for it. :-)

If you’ll notice, almost same as Cherry Mobile W900. It seems Huawei is the OEM of Cherry Mobile W900 Dragon Phone :-)

How come everybody now wants one? It is Chinese product! I was under the impression, most Filipinos want to ban Chinese products, is it not?

They should have bumped up the battery. And no front facing camera? Anyway’ aside from those two and the 512 RAM. Seems pretty good.
