HUAWEI Pura 80 Series debuts industry-first camera tech in Bangkok

HUAWEI held its APAC launch event in Bangkok, Thailand today. The company unveiled a new lineup of products headlined by the HUAWEI Pura 80 Series. The event, themed ‘Fashion Next,’ took place at One Bangkok Forum and brought together media, industry partners, and HUAWEI fans.

Leading the announcements was the HUAWEI Pura 80 Ultra, which introduces the world’s first switchable dual telephoto camera. The setup features a 3.7x and 9.4x optical zoom within a shared ultra-large 1/1.28-inch sensor.

This was made possible by a complex 143-component camera module with dual prisms and a four-lens group. For durability, the Pura 80 Ultra features second-gen Crystal Armour Kunlun Glass, offering 25x improved drop resistance and 16x scratch resistance.

HUAWEI also showcased its new Ultra Lighting HDR and Night Zoom technologies through a low-light demo zone at the event. These aim to improve detail and sharpness in dim lighting conditions and are backed by the brand’s XMAGE imaging system.

The HUAWEI Pura 80 Pro carries over the 1-inch sensor from the Ultra model. It also comes equipped with an Ultra Lighting Macro Telephoto camera and Ultra Chroma camera. These help the device capture color-accurate shots at any distance.

AI-powered tools such as AI Messaging, Gesture Control, and Best Expression also debut on the new lineup. HUAWEI says a new AI Remove tool is coming soon, allowing users to erase unwanted obstructions from photos using generative fill.
