New leaks have given the clearest look yet at Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, revealing a redesigned rear panel that blends glass with aluminium and a noticeably larger camera module—potentially setting the tone for Apple’s biggest iPhone design change since the iPhone 12.
Leaked images of dummy units show what appear to be final or near-final designs for the iPhone 17 lineup, including the base model, the new iPhone 17 Air, and the two Pro-tier models. The standout updates are found on the Pro and Pro Max versions, both of which now sport a hybrid rear construction—glass covering the bottom half of the device, likely for MagSafe compatibility, and aluminium surrounding the top camera area and frame.
This marks a departure from the all-glass back seen on the iPhone 16 Pro models. The use of aluminium not only aligns with Apple’s recent sustainability efforts but could also enhance durability without compromising wireless charging or aesthetics. The leaked image also reveals an expanded camera island that now stretches farther across the top of the rear panel, suggesting that Apple may be preparing for more advanced camera hardware—or at least a visually bolder design.
The camera module itself appears much larger than that of the iPhone 16 Pro, adding weight to speculation that Apple will introduce upgraded sensors or periscope-style zoom capabilities in the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which is expected to be the largest phone in the lineup.
Both the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 are tipped to feature 6.3-inch displays, while the iPhone 17 Air and 17 Pro Max are expected to be larger, with the latter likely remaining Apple’s top-tier device in both size and features. The new “Air” model is set to replace the iPhone 16 Plus and is rumored to be Apple’s thinnest iPhone ever, with a minimalist design and just a single rear camera.
Notably, the base iPhone 17 appears to retain a more conservative look, with a vertical camera layout and minimal design changes compared to the iPhone 16. This suggests Apple may be reserving its boldest innovations for its premium-tier phones, continuing its trend of making the Pro line the design and feature frontier of the iPhone ecosystem.
While these are only dummy models, they are often based on detailed schematics passed down the supply chain and used by accessory makers to prepare for launch. And with multiple leaks converging on this glass-aluminium hybrid design, expectations are growing that Apple is embracing a fresh aesthetic direction for the iPhone 17 Pro series—one that balances elegance, material contrast, and camera prominence.
