LG Optimus 2X coming this May

Listen to article

We got a quick tip from LG Philippines that their new flagship smartphone superphone, the LG Optimus 2X, will be released in the Philippines next month.

LG did not give an exact date but they’re already preparing for the big launch this May 2011. The Optimus 2X is among the very few dual-core smartphones to be available in the market soon.

LG Optimus 2X (LG P990)
4.0″ display @ 480×800 pixels
ARM Cortex A9 1.0GHz dual-core processor (Tegra 2)
up to 32GB via microSD
3G/HSDPA
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
8MP autofocus camera w/ LED Flash
1.3MP secondary front-facing camera
GPS w/ aGPS support
HDMI port
1500mAh Li-Ion battery
Android 2.2 Froyo

It’s still not clear if they will upgrade it to Gingerbread out of the box or it will go thru OTA. They’re also mum about the suggested retail price. For now, at least we can expect something in a couple of weeks.

Interestingly, Samsung is also set to release the Galaxy S2 next month. That should be an interesting battle between the two.

isn’t the Samsung Galaxy s 2 coming out sa august pa daw?

But it would be nice if it came out this month along side the optimus 2x, may point of comparison agad. :D

Ang sakin lang, since this the first ever dual-core phone that has come out, malaki ang chance na hilaw pa siya. And i think kaya agad ni-release toh ng LG is para maunahan ang Samsung, HTC, Motorola, etc sa Superphone market.

Not saying it’d be a disappointment right away but tulad ng sabi ni csseyah, good decision ang maghintay :)

LG vs Samsung vs HTC…battle of the android phones

I have the phone, Bought it in Ebay for 25 k plus tax.

@emignatius–freezing? So far di pa sya naghang or nagfreeze. Very fast phone lalo na sa Internet browsing.

My only major issue is the battery. Bilis kumain at madrain. At one time pala nagcharge ako while surfing nagblack ang screen. But nothing of that sort na you have to take out the battery. A simple restart will do.

The performance so far goes beyond expectation. It has a nice music player, nice sound, blazing fast application processing, nice video applications. It handles Flash well.

Pangit lang ang manual since it’s my first Android phone, kailangan pa akong magresearch sa Internet for things like removing messages, transferring contacts, etc

Ok na yung Ram nya even if magupgrade pa sa 2.3 Gingerbread kasi the phone applications naman don’t use that big a memory at it’s not like a computer na magmumultitask ka ng sobra sobra

I think kaya nagblack yung screen while surfing is according to the manual , some operations may not work when you hook it up with a usb, transfer files while charging . Mea culpa. My fault.

And when you transfer contacts from the SIM at you turn off the SIM contact display… you have to restart for it to take effect

Any ROMS available for the device yet?

ice · 15 years ago

i wasn’t referring to the phone applications or multitasking..pag naupdate kasi sya yung processes na nagrurun sa background is mas malaki kinakain na memory compared sa version 2.2.. ^_^ just like sa case ng samsung galaxy s.. anyway is your unit running on 2.3 already?

The LG Optimus 2X is plagued with hardware problems. Stories about this phone freezing and/or shutting down. The only way to unfreeze is by taking out the battery and putting it back in. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=997705 I’ll wait a few more months to see if they can fix this problem if I were you. By then, the LG optimus 3D may be out and I’ll probably wait again to see if there will be problems with that model as well.

this is a nice phone, kaya lang maliit ang RAM.. 512mb tapos pag inupdate sa android 2.3 lalo konti magiging available for running other applications

Dear Jhay na nag mamagaling:

Ang ibig sabihin ni ice is masyadong maliit ang 512 mb kumpara sa mga lalabas na htc phones and he/she did specify that its for “running” applications and not for storing.

And FYI i have a t-mobile g2x which is practically the same phone as the optimus 2x.

P.S. Ram is memory. I think you mean ram is not storage.

I will be waiting for your reply.

this is a useless phone. hspa+ is coming to the Philippines and this phone is still stuck with 3g. useless for 4g tethering.

ah LG, you guys fail all the time

makabobo k nmn, cool down bro mga tao dito palaging galit. To call it useless is really dumb but i see his point. Globe already launched hspa+ and smart is investing on lte and this phone wont work on both technology which could be a concern for a dual core phone thats suppose to be the future of phones and should be a keeper for a while. still a stupid comment though haha

I bet costly ang price nito since rare ang dual core processors for smartphones. I saw this phone on ANC and it was great but the battery drains faster :(

“they’re already preparing for the big launch”

Would it be another One Time Big Time (part 2x!) where they’ll sell some 30 pcs of this phone at 50% off after using provocative advertising to attract a huge mob of hundreds to attend their launch?

Abangan!

Bryan · 15 years ago

30pcs? I don’t think it even reached 20 pcs. I was there around 130th+ from the store and I could see less than 20 people going in and out of the shop in that one hour. Epic fail for a product launching. They’re just after publicity, be it good or bad.

The LG Optimus Black will probably be released later mid this year. The Optimus Black isn’t even widely available in other regions at the moment. Nonetheless, you can wonder and droll over these sexy LG Optimus 2X cases here –
