According to the report, the standalone app will be based on Meta’s Instagram platform and will integrate with decentralized social networking protocol, ActivityPub.

This means that users will be able to hypothetically transfer their accounts and followers from other social media platforms to the new app.

The new app, as per the screenshot, is internally codenamed “Project 92.” However, The Verge also mentioned that they have seen documents indicating that the new app will be called “Threads.”

We’ll be sure to keep tabs on any developments with Meta’s upcoming Twitter rival so stay tuned!
