Today at IFA 2019, the new Moto E6 Plus is fresh off its launch from Lenovo-owned Motorola. The successor to last year’s Moto E5 Plus, it retains its entry-level positioning and consequently, a low price. Read our hands-on below.
The E6 Plus combines modern design cues with some functional design that by 2019 standards, can feel a little bit like a blast from the past. You’ll understand why in a moment.
Up front, we have a modern look with a 6.1-inch HD+ display outfitted with a teardrop notch that houses an 8MP selfie camera. The bezels around the top and sides are somewhat slim, but not edge-to-edge, and the chin is quite thick.
On the right side, we have the power and volume buttons. This next sentence is usually the part where we say, “and on the left, we have the SIM tray…”, but not this time — remember that ‘blast from the past’ from earlier?
An absolute rarity in 2019 — the Moto E6 Plus’ back panel can be removed, which then reveals a removable battery, as well as the slots for two nano-SIM cards and a microSD card. This is quite an uncommon sight for a phone released in the last two years, so if you’re someone who misses removable batteries, Motorola has answered your call.
The back of the device is also home to the 13MP + 2MP dual rear cameras plus an LED flash, as well as Motorola’s signature fingerprint scanner adorned with their logo. This is not the only biometric security feature; however, as facial recognition is also available.
Up top, you can find the 3.5mm headphone port, while down below are the outdated micro USB port, loudspeaker, and microphone.
For hardware, the device is rocking a MediaTek Helio P22 chipset with 2GB/4GB of RAM, 32GB/64GB of internal storage, and a 3,000mAh battery.
For software, it’s running close-to-stock Android 9 Pie for a nice and clean vanilla experience free of the bloat.
The Moto E6 Plus is priced at €139 (~PHP8,000USD 136INR 11,557EUR 130CNY 993) and is now available in South America. It will be coming to the Asian market in the next few months.
