Not just a Portrait Expert, the OPPO Reno8 5G can also game

We previously wrote about why OPPO’s Reno8 Series 5G is called the Portrait Expert and how creators use it- for night-time content, showing that the said smartphones have capable cameras. Those are made possible because of the hardware powering it. So, not only it’s a device for taking photos and videos, but it’s also a capable gaming device. Here’s why.

MediaTek Dimensity 1300

The capabilities of the Reno8 5G are made possible because of the chipset under the hood, the MediaTek Dimensity 1300. It is manufactured using TSMC’s N6 (6nm) production process, which is a powerful yet efficient chip design. It has an octa-core CPU that features one Ultra Core processor clocked at 3GHz, three Super Cores up to 2.6GHz, and four Efficiency Cores up to 2GHz. For the GPU, it has an ARM Mali-G77 MC9 which is a 9-core GPU.

Other features of the Dimensity 1300 is a MediaTek HyperEngine 5.0 to provide a comprehensive suite of gaming-related optimizations, boosted AI performance with a six-core MediaTek APU 3.0, support for hi-res cameras with 4K video recording and AI-assisted night shots, 5G connectivity, and high refresh rates.

Check out the benchmark scores below:

• AnTuTu v9 – 613,312
• 3D Mark – 1,323 (Wild Life Extreme), 4,645 (Wild Life)
• Geekbench 5 – 476 (Single-Core), 2,647 (Multi-Core)

These scores are good indicators of a premium flagship. True enough, we were able to play games like Genshin Impact and Ni no Kuni in high settings. Tower of Fantasy in Extreme, UHD, and 90 FPS run really smoothly and looks really great given the screen’s 90Hz refresh rate. There’s more to talk about gaming, though, which we will discuss later.

8GB + 256GB memory

The chipset alone is not enough to provide a good experience as the memory also plays an important role. For one, the Reno8 5G has 8GB which is more than enough to provide decent multi-tasking capabilities. But OPPO didn’t settle with that and included a RAM expansion capability, allowing you to take up to 5GB from the storage space and use it to help the RAM.

OPPO also didn’t skimp on storage as it has 256GB which gives you plenty of space for your photos, videos, and apps.

4,500mAh battery w/ 80W SUPERVOOC

What’s the point of having powerful features for creative and gaming purposes if they can’t last a whole day? The OPPO Reno8 5G solves that with its 4,500mAh battery. It even uses OPPO’s proprietary Battery Health Engine that can prolong the battery’s health.

You also don’t have to wait long to get back in the game as the 80W SUPERVOOC can recharge the battery to 50% in just 11 minutes, while a 5-minute charge can provide 2 hours of gaming.

ColorOS 12.1 w/ Gaming Features

Running the software side for the Reno8 5G is ColorOS 12.1 based on Android 12. The software harnesses the power of the hardware and turns it into features that the user can use. If you’re into gaming, you’ll be glad to see the Game Focus mode which removes all distractions while gaming.

Then there’s Pro Gamer mode in Performance settings to make sure that your resources are optimized and channeled towards the game you’re playing. These features can be easily accessed with a simple swipe from the top-left corner of the game itself. Connectivity shouldn’t be an issue as it also supports 5G for a faster and more stable connection.

Based on these features, and from our own experience, the OPPO Reno8 5G is not just a Portrait Expert but also a portable gaming machine, capable of satisfying creators and gamers.

The OPPO Reno8 5G is priced at PHP 27,999 and is available now at OPPO Brand stores, partner dealers, and e-commerce sites.
