OPPO Find N 5G Hands-on

OPPO now has its own entry into the very exclusive foldable smartphone segment, finally giving Samsung some real competition. This comes in the form of the OPPO Find N 5G, which has actually been in development for four years now, with the company’s R&D department going through six generations of prototypes.

The Find N uses the same basic design as Samsung’s Galaxy Fold line — one larger foldable display, and another smaller display for the cover. This one, however, is a lot more compact than the Galaxy Z Fold 3, with its folding display at 7.1-inches (vs 7.6-inches) and the cover display at 5.5-inches (vs 6.2-inches).

It’s still quite thick when folded though, and will leave you with a bulge in your pocket, but is still somewhat easier to carry around than the Galaxy Z Fold 3 since it isn’t as tall. All this to say before we get into the finer details — the Find N is essentially a more compact Galaxy Z Fold 3.

Using the folded stance as our point of reference, on the right side, we get the power button that also doubles as a fingerprint scanner and the volume rocker.

At the bottom, we get a pair of loudspeakers, the main microphone, the slot for the dual nano-SIM tray, and the USB-C port.

At the back panel, we get the triple rear camera module that includes a 50MP main sensor, a 16MP ultrawide lens, and a 13MP telephoto.

Those aren’t the only cameras though, as we also get one punch-hole selfie camera on the cover screen, and another on the folding screen. Both have 32MP resolutions.

Taking a closer look at those screens we have a 7.1-inch (1792 x 1920) AMOLED inner display with 270 PPI and 5.49-inch (1972 x 988) AMOLED outer display with 402 PPI. Protecting it is Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

For internals, the Find N is powered by the current flagship king – the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset. Our unit here comes with 12GB of RAM and a whopping 512GB of internal storage.

Since this is a folding phone, the software we have here is clearly a version of OPPO’s ColorOS that’s optimized for foldables. We get specific features such as a split keyboard, tiled layout for apps like YouTube, and the ability to take selfies with the rear cameras in tandem with the cover display.

For power, the OPPO Find N sports a 4,500mAh battery. The charger included in our box has a maximum output of 33W, which should be able to comfortably charge the phone in about an hour.

Now there’s a lot more to this phone than meets the eye, especially when we consider how long it’s been in development — it’s the start of a new generation of OPPO smartphones that will be interesting to see unfold.

There’s no word yet when it will arrive in the Philippines. We’re looking forward to spending more time with it in our full review, so stay tuned.

Knowing how Oppo prices and markets their products, this will be super expensive.
