OPPO patents smartphone with pop-up camera on the side

Pop-up cameras are usually placed at the top of the device, but in the case of OPPO’s new patent, it’s going to be placed on the side.

The OPPO patent that was found in the CNIPA’s (China National Intellectual Property Administration) database shows a full-screen smartphone with a side-mounted pop-up camera near the rear camera module.

The patent also reveals other details about the phone including a USB-Type-C port and a headphone jack.

Again, this is just a patent. There’s no word yet if OPPO will actually produce a phone with this camera design in the near future.

why even patent this…how unique is this idea anyway?! though I think this is a better pop-up selfie cam design than the one that pops up from the top. that’s because if the pop-up camera is at the top, a phone case would have to leave the part near the camera open, which makes it more difficult because a phone that falls will more likely have its top (or bottom) part hit the floor than its sides
