OPPO Reno8 Z 5G Hands-on

OPPO is set to launch its Reno8 series in the Philippines later this evening, and one of those devices is the Reno8 Z 5G. This one packs a 6.43-inch AMOLED screen, 64MP triple-rear cameras, and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G chipset. Read our initial thoughts about this smartphone below.

The OPPO Reno8 Z 5G has some similarities to the Reno8 5G that we did a hands-on a couple of days ago. The frame also sports a metallic paint job with a sandblasted texture. The sides are also flat with curved corners, making it easy to grip.

Encased in that frame is a 6.43-inch display with Full HD+ resolution or equal to 409ppi. It uses an AMOLED panel so it produces deep black and punchy colors. Placed on the upper left is the hole punch for the 16MP selfie camera.

On the left of the frame are the volume buttons and the dual-SIM slot in a hybrid setup.

On the right is the power/ lock button. They’re placed in the middle of the frame so they’re easy to reach. The buttons are also tactile and produce nice, solid clicks.

Placed above the frame is the secondary microphone, while down at the bottom are the 3.5mm audio jack, main microphone, USB-C port, and the loudspeaker.

Flip it on its back and you will see the camera module for the 64MP main, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth. The module is flushed, though, unlike the one on the Reno8, but the lenses do protrude. What’s unique about this model is that it has RGB ring lights around the two large lenses. These ring lights activate when you receive a notification or when charging.

The OPPO Reno8 Z 5G comes in Starlight Black and Dawnlight Gold. What we have is the black model, and from this angle, you can see the starlight effect. You will see that the back panel glitters, resembling the night sky. It feels good, too, as it has this fine texture that adds to the grip and repels fingerprints and smudges well.

Powering the OPPO Reno8 Z 5G is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G chipset with an octa-core CPU, Adreno 619 GPU, 8GB of RAM with an Extended RAM function for an additional 5GB. Storage-wise, it has 128GB UFS 2.2. And for the battery, a 4,500mAh capacity with support for 33W SuperVOOC fast charging.

The OPPO Reno8 series will launch in the Philippines soon. Stay tuned for the pricing and availability.
