In this episode of specs comparison, we will be putting two new smartphones side-by-side that were released in the country this year and we will check out which one has the better specs in key aspects.
The OPPO A83 is the company’s first smartphone to be released this year in the country. It has a 5.7-inch HD+ display with 1440 x 720 resolution, a MediaTek MT6763T (Helio P23) processor, a 32GB internal storage, a 3GB RAM, a 13MP rear camera with LED flash, an 8MP front camera with screen flash and AI Beautification Technology, and a 3,180mAh battery.
The ASUS ZenFone Max Plus is the company’s first smartphone that’s released this year as well. It has a 5.7-inch FHD+ display with 2160 x 1080 resolution, a MediaTek MT6750T processor, a 32GB internal storage, a 4GB RAM, a dual 16MP + 8MP rear cameras with LED flash, an 8MP front camera with screen flash, and a 4,130mAh battery.

Both smartphones have the same display specs except for their screen resolution. The A83 has a 1440 x 720 resolution while the Max Plus has a higher 2160 x 1080 resolution. For viewing experience, both smartphones have a 5.7-inch screen size with an 18:9 screen aspect ratio which is always a good sign that users will have a good time watching videos, however, the Max Plus wins this one with its higher screen resolution.
The CPU and GPU of the A83 and Max Plus shows a significant difference upon being tested to synthetic benchmarks. The Helio P23’s performance is significantly higher than the MT7650 of the latter. In term of gaming potential, the Mali-G71 MP2 of the A83 can run heavy games smoother than the Mali-T860 of the Max Plus. In both aspects, the A83 is the better pick.
The Max Plus has a higher main rear camera resolution compared with the A83. The A83 has an AI Beautification Technology that the OPPO F5 initially has. We have taken sample shots from both smartphones which users can look at. (OPPO A83 and ASUS ZenFone Max Plus)
The Max Plus is dubbed as the battery king by the company, however, when we tested the device in PCMark’s battery test, we found out that it only lasted for 9 hours and 25 minutes while the A83 lasted for 13 hours and 2 minutes, considering that the latter only has a 3,180mAh battery.
One thing to note is that the A83 lacks a fingerprint scanner whereas the Max Plus has. Both smartphones have Face Unlock feature which is good for users who want a new method in unlocking their devices.
In summary, if users want a good viewing experience, the Max Plus is the better pick. For performance, gaming potential, and battery life, the A83 is definitely the device to be chosen.
The OPPO A83 is priced at Php9,990USD 170INR 14,432EUR 162CNY 1,240 while the ASUS ZenFone Max Plus Php11,995USD 204INR 17,328EUR 195CNY 1,489.
