Specs Comparison: Samsung Galaxy J1 (2015) vs J1 (2016)

The 2016 version of Samsung‘s Galaxy J1 was just spotted yesterday for sale in one of their local stores. Early last year, the company also introduced its entry-level smartphone for the same price. Let’s now take a quick side-by-side comparison on both their specs to see what has improved after a year.

Galaxy J1 (2016) improvements:

  • Larger display
  • Super AMOLED screen
  • Faster processor
  • Better GPU
  • Bigger RAM at 1GB
  • Double the internal storage at 8GB
  • Higher battery capacity
  • Updated OS

Both are the same in:

  • 5MP rear camera
  • 2MP front camera
  • Connectivity
  • Dual-SIM
  • Price

With the same asking price of Php5,490, the 2016 variant of the J1 offers a better screen in general plus a faster processor. Although still not that beefy, the RAM has also been improved from 512MB to 1GB, while the storage has been doubled to 8GB.

We saw the 2016 J1 over at the Samsung Store in SM Light Mall and should also be available in other branches.

  1. Lol. How can a bigger display phone with the same screen resolution have a higher ppa?

    • The same situation when people ask why Iphone 4 has 326ppi in a 960 x 640 resolution.

  2. Obviously you’re paying for the Samsung name here. There are much better deals elsewhere for even less money, if you can trust their brand names.

  3. Yung J1(2015) dapat ibenta na rin ng Smart ng php888 hahaha..

  4. Don’t worry about the ambiguous future, just work hard for the sake of clarity
