vivo X80 w/ Dimensity 9000 Hands-on

Early this month, vivo launched two new flagship smartphones in the country, the vivo X80 Pro with a Snapdragon 8 Gen1 chipset, and the vivo X80 with a MediaTek Dimensity 9000. What we have now is the latter. So, how is it different from its ‘Pro’ sibling? Check out our hands-on below.

It’s difficult to tell the difference between the vivo X80 and the vivo X80 Pro at first glance. The two are very much similar in design and almost very close in dimensions.

On the front, we have the same 6.78-inch screen, but the X80 has a lower FHD+ resolution (2400 x 1080) or equal to 388ppi, compared to the X80 Pro’s WQHD+ (3200 x 1440) or 517ppi. Still, it has a punchy AMOLED panel that curves on the sides. The refresh rate is also lower at 90Hz (vs 120Hz on the Pro).

Placed above the screen is the hole punch for the 32MP selfie camera, then right above it in the bezel is the earpiece and secondary loudspeaker. The optical fingerprint scanner is also placed under the display.

Placed on the right are the power/lock and the volume buttons. They’re very firm, tactile, and easy to reach.

Up top is the secondary microphone.

Down at the bottom, we have the SIM card slot, main microphone, USB-C port, and main loudspeaker.

At the back, we can see the large camera module that looks similar to the X80 Pro. Housing it is the 50MP main, 12MP ultra-wide, and 12MP depth. Also found here are the LED flash and the ZEISS branding.

We also like the back panel which feels like ceramic with a smooth textured finish. It also stayed true to its Cosmic Black colorway as it looked like that night sky speckled with stars. It looks and feels nice.

In the hands, the X80 is easy to grip, thanks to the thin body and curved screen. It’s tall, though, so you’ll need to hands to navigate it more comfortably.

Powering the vivo X80 is a MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset (versus Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen1 on the X80 Pro) with an octa-core CPU clocked at a maximum of 3.05GHz, Mali-G710 GPU, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. This is a powerful flagship configuration and got a score of 996,274 on AnTuTu. For the battery, it has a 4,500mAh capacity (versus 4,700mAh on the X80 Pro) with 80W fast charging.

The vivo X80 is now available in the Philippines for PHP 45,999, making it a more affordable alternative to the X80 Pro which is priced at PHP 59,999. Stay tuned for our full review.
